Chael Sonnen says Anthony Pettis would 'smash' Georges St-Pierre

Is Chael Sonnen crazy for saying Anthony Pettis would 'smash' Georges St-Pierre?

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

One week removed from UFC 167 and mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are still discussing the judges' decision in the Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks main event. The bout was contested for St-Pierre's Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title.

The decision was further tainted as St-Pierre announced a hiatus from MMA in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. Compounding the issue was UFC President Dana White's rant about how St-Pierre "owed the fans and promotion" a rematch with Johny Hendricks, which was panned in the media.

It seems like even after a week and a Manny Pacquiao fight, people are still discussing the Las Vegas screwjob. The latest person to jump in on the action is Chael Sonnen, who sent out a tweet last week saying that UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis would "smash" GSP.

Sonnen may not be too off base with this assessment. Without question, UFC 167 was St-Pierre's worst performance since he won the welterweight title. It was obviously close, but it wasn't the typical 'St-Pierre bout' that fans have come to expect of the champion.

Though in this case, it should be said that Sonnen is talking about the fan voting for the cover of EA Sports' UFC title and not an actual fight. But, a boy can dream, right?

And while we're dong some fantasy matchmaking, I love this potential fight. But I'm not gonna hold my breath because there's no way that it gets booked.
