After his stunning submission over Evan Dunham at UFC 167, Donald Cerrone is finally back on track. The win earned Cerrone "Submission of the Night" honors. Prior to the Dunham fight, Cerrone discussed a possible move down to featherweight, a move that was questioned by everyone -- in particular UFC President Dana White (more details here) -- as "Cowboy" is absolutely massive at Lightweight.
However, with his latest success, it looks like Cerrone is reconsidering his plans.
It was announced on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23, 2013) that Cerrone will remain in the 155-pound division to face Adriano Martins at UFC on Fox 10 in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 25, 2014. The card features Ben Henderson and Josh Thomson fighting in the main event.
Martins made his Ultimate FIghting Championship (UFC) debut at UFC Fight Night 32: "Belfort vs. Henderson," taking home a cool $50,000 bonus when he forced Daron Cruickshank to tap in the second round with a straight armbar.
With Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis sidelined because of a knee injury, an impressive win for either man could vault them into title contention.
