With champion Anthony Pettis sidelined with a knee injury, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has decided to move ahead with the lightweight division.
UFC President Dana White announced at the beginning of the UFC 167 post-fight press conference at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV that the UFC would be returning to Chicago, IL on January 25, 2014 with UFC on FOX 10: "Henderson vs. Thomson" at the United Center.
Former UFC Lightweight champion Benson Henderson looks to rebound from his first round submission loss to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164 in Milwaukee this summer. It was a rematch from their WEC 53 bout and the second time that Pettis was able to defeat Henderson.
Josh Thomson was expected to face Pettis at UFC on Fox 9 in Sacramento, California on December 14 before Pettis suffered the knee injury in training. Instead of waiting for his title shot, Thomson will be facing the former champion.
The undercard is expected to air on Fox Sports 1.
