This, mixed martial arts (MMA) fans, is one of the sickest knockouts in recent Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) history.
In fact, the moment Jeremy Stephens got pulled off Rony Jason -- one ridiculous punch too late -- at UFC Fight Night 32 earlier this evening at Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil, it was impossible not to immediately think about Dan Henderson and his flying finish of Michael Bisping back at UFC 100.
Indeed, "Hendo" -- who was backstage getting taped up for his main event clash against Vitor Belfort -- couldn't help but physically react to "Lil' Heathen" (see reaction .gif here) delivering an insane coup de grace (a.k.a. DEATH BLOW) to his unconscious Brazilian Featherweight opponent.
Stephens initially landed a head kick that knocked out Jason on his feet. He fell nearly perfect on his back with the Octagon cage propping up his head, which was all Stephens needed to take a run at Jason and deliver a murderous leaping punch.
It happened so fast, and was so stunning, that it is hard to fault the referee for not stopping it sooner. Stephens, for his part, apologized to Jason post-fight, apparently unaware that he was already out.
That's now back-to-back wins for Stephens at 145-pounds, perhaps putting the rest of the division on notice that he prepared to take names, and souls, in his run to the top if the weight class.
