UFC on FOX 9: Jamie Varner vs Pat Healy fight set for Sacramento

"The Worm" makes his return to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) when he faces Pat Healy at UFC on Fox 9, which takes place at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., on Dec. 14, 2013.

Jamie Varner has seen his mixed martial arts (MMA) career go through a bit of a renaissance. He is the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Lightweight champion who saw a major drop after he left the sister promotion. He lost a bout to Dakota Cochran before putting together a two-fight win streak to get invited back to UFC.

Since rejoining the roster, he's even (2-2) with wins over Edson Barboza and Melvin Guillard and losses to Joe Lauzon and Gleison Tibau.

This is a rebound fight for both combatants. Varner was last seen a drop off since making his debut. His loss to Tibau halted a rise up the lightweight division. Healy was last seen dropping a Unanimous Decision to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 165.

It it expected that Healy and Varner will fight on the Fox Sports 1 "Prelims."
