-- World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 6 at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla., last night (Sat., Oct. 26, 2013) was supposed to be Miguel Torres chance at mixed martial arts (MMA) redemption. Redemption not just in the sense that he was hoping to recreate himself as a Featherweight, but also his shot at turning his life around. His tenure with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) ended with Torres having a strained relationship with company president Dana White after a distasteful tweet. He was released following a knockout loss to Michael McDonald at UFC 145 in Atlanta, Georgia. Torres was quickly signed by WSOF and his debut was on the promotion's inaugural event, a split decision loss to Marlon Moraes. That was last year. This year he's been in the news for being arrested for possession of marijuana. It was vital that he defeated Pablo Alfonso at WSOF 6. Unfortunately, he didn't fight to the best of his abilities and was crushed in the first round. Alfonso wrecked Torres' right eye with elbows and forced the tap from a guillotine choke to end the fight. Torres went to his Facebook page to explain the reason he had such problems with Alfonso. And while he says it's not an excuse, it sure comes off as one when he's putting a lot of the blame on the referee. It may be time for him to just hang it up -- it's getting painful to watch him lose.
