Nicholas Musoke made his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut earlier this Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26, 2013) at Phones 4U Arena in Manchester, England, on short notice and one weight class higher than normal.
And his Middleweight opponent, Alessio Sakara, at UFC Fight Night 30 was a 14-fight Octagon veteran.
It didn't mean much as "Nico" cruised to slick submission victory little more than three minutes into round one, surviving a powerful flurry from the Italian veteran that appeared to throw off his equilibrium. Musoke cleared the cob webs and returned fire, actually wobbling Sakara before the pair clinched.
The mixed martial arts (MMA) match soon hit the floor, with Sakara in top position and perhaps a little too eager to unleash his ground and pound. He misfired with a huge left elbow, which Musoke used to cleverly trap his wrist, twist his hips and crank his arm the wrong (and painful) way en route to a first round submission.
Sakara is now mired in a four-fight losing streak and, more than likely, is on his way out the door. Musoke, meanehile, is on a seven-fight unbeaten streak and instantly gained recognition as an up-and-coming prospect.
But, at what weight? Time will tell.
