Just like that, Quinton Jackson and Tito Ortiz have been replaced atop the Bellator 106 mixed martial arts (MMA) marquee thanks to a predictable "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" injury suffered in training.
Lightweight stars Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez will now headline the event on Spike TV next weekend (Sat., Nov. 2, 2013) at Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center in Long Beach, California. It's a rematch that most combat sports fans deserved top billing in the first place.
Jackson was interested in making his promotional debut on the card; however, a suitable Light Heavyweight replacement was unable to be secured on such short notice and he will instead compete later in November on a different card against an opponent to be determined.
Perhaps it could come against Muhammed Lawal, who will battle Emanuel Newton for the 205-pound title, as well as redemption, in the new Bellator 106 co-main event. In addition to Michael Chandler vs. Eddie Alvarez 2 and Emanuel Newton vs. Muhammed Lawal, Bellator 106 will feature a third championship tilt between Featherweight champion Pat Curran against Daniel Straus.
Solid stuff.
