Tomorrow night (Oct. 26, 2013) at the Phones4u Arena in Manchester, England, Lyoto Machida makes his middleweight debut against Mark Munoz in the main event of UFC Fight Night 30: 'Machida vs. Munoz'. It marks the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) return to Manchester.
Machida was originally scheduled to face Tim Kennedy at UFC Fight For the Troops 3, but when Michael Bisping suffered an eye injury and was forced from the Munoz bout, Machida stepped in on short notice. Machida was always considered one of the smaller light heavyweights, so a drop in weight could see the former UFC Light Heavyweight champ reinvent himself at a more natural weight class.
One of the more interesting facts about Machida is his use of urinet herapy to detox his system. What is urine therapy you ask? The simple answer is you drink your own pee. That's basically it. Machida was asked by the folks at Whoa! TV if he had enjoyed some urine in preparations for his bout with Munoz.
Surprisingly, Machida passed on drinking after going "number one."
Not for this time. Not for this time. I stopped a little bit. Sometimes I drink, sometimes I don't. For this fight, I stopped a little bit. But it's not a problem for me.
"Liquid gold" has provided a mental edge for Machida over his past opponents because seriously, the man drinks his own urine. He's just not quite right and there's nothing an opponent can do that can break him mentally.
Will Machida be able to fight up to his full potential? Or will choosing to forgo on some pre-fight pee prove to be his kryptonite? Sound off Maniacs!
