Ian McCall hurt, pulls out of bout with Scott Jorgensen at UFC on FOX 9

The injury bug has cast its net far and wide today. The latest victim is exciting Flyweight Ian McCall, who pulled out of his upcoming match with Scott Jorgensen.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

An undisclosed injury has scrapped what promised to be an exciting match between Scott Jorgensen and Ian McCall, which was supposed to go down at UFC on FOX 9 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., on Dec. 14, 2013.

For Jorgensen, there's probably still time to get a new opponent for the first 125-pound professional mixed martial arts (MMA) match in his career. "Young Guns" has dropped three of his last four at Bantamweight to the top talent in the division (Renan Barao, Urijah Faber and Eddie Wineland), and the lighter weight class is probably his last shot at a run for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) gold.

UFC is currently looking for a new opponent for Jorgensen, according to MMAJunkie.com. John Dodson would seem like a wonderful replacement -- the worst damage he suffered against Darrell Montague at UFC 166 last weekend came when he botched the celebratory flip off the cage.

Stay tuned.

UFC on Fox 9 will be headlined by a 155-pound title fight between UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis against former Strikeforce division titleholder Josh Thomson, a fight "Showtime" claims will end in the very first round.

That's not all.

The co-main event will feature former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber in his quest to get back into the 135-pound title hunt at the expense of fellow bantamweight stalwart Michael McDonald. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, Matt Brown will try to prove he's immortal against welterweight warrior Carlos Condit.
