UFC 166 results: Cain Velasquez TKOs Junior dos Santos to retain heavyweight title

This was hard to watch at times. But boy is Cain Velasquez a monster.

USA TODAY Sports

Junior dos Santos knocked out Cain Velasquez in the first meeting. Velasquez dominated Dos Santos for five full rounds in the second meeting. Tonight (Sat., Oct. 19, 2013) in the main event of UFC 166: "Velasquez vs. Dos Santos 3" at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, they met for a third and final time to settle the score in an awesome heavyweight trilogy over the division title.

It looked an awful lot like the second meeting.

That's because Velasquez, who solidified his status as one of the best in the sport today, battered and beat Dos Santos from pillar to post, knocking him around the cage for another five rounds.

This time, though, he didn't need the judges.

Indeed, in the fifth round, right when it looked like "Cigano" would somehow survive to the final horn, a failed choke attempt led to a series of punches on the ground that forced referee Herb Dean to step in and stop it.

It felt like a mercy stoppage more than anything else. "He's very... What can I say? He beat me up," said Dos Santos in the post-fight interview. He knew, just like everyone else, that he simply couldn't measure up.

He did promise to come back to give the fans a good show. It just won't be against Velasquez.
