Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fired off its latest network television special this weekend (Sat., Jan. 26, 2013) from the United Center in Chicago, Ill., delivering an exciting blend of mixed martial arts (MMA) action that entertained throughout the two-hour broadcast, which actually went over the limit because of the back-and-forth five-round headliner.
Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson was able to wear down the power-punching John Dodson in the UFC on Fox 6 main event, surviving two early knockdowns and rallying in the final 15 minutes to register a close come-from-behind unanimous decision victory.
In the co-main event, Quinton Jackson looked to hit the free agent market on a high note at the expense of Glover Teixeira, a bomb-dropping Brazilian who is rising up the 205-pound ladder just as "Rampage" is sliding down it in a free fall. Teixeira continued his ascent, winning a gritty unanimous decision and sending Jackson on his way on a three-fight losing skid.
Too bad, so sad.
The two opening main card bouts, meanwhile, ended quickly and violently.
Anthony Pettis kicked his No. 1 Lightweight contender ticket (again) with a gut-busting Donald Cerrone liver shot, while Ricardo Lamas inched his way closer to a Featherweight title bout thanks to his skin-splitting elbows, which busted open Erik Koch and turned out his lights within two rounds in a furious flurry.
