-- With a coveted Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 185-pound title shot hanging in the balance, Michael Bisping waded behind enemy lines to battle Vitor Belfort in front of an unfriendly crowd at the Ibirapuera Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Sat., Jan. 19, 2013, in the UFC on FX 7 main event. Win and he was in with a future date to challenge UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva later this year, lose and he would miss out on the golden opportunity for a third time. Bisping came out with a careful and calculated attack, pumping his jab and keeping his feet moving. Belfort laid in wait, looking to spot an opening and exploit it like only he can. Bisping survived a kick to the face toward the tail end of the first round, but he wasn't so fortunate in second. Belfort dipped a jab and threw a head kick counter, sending "The Count" down but not totally out. "The Phenom," however, is perhaps the best finisher in mixed martial arts (MMA) when he has his opponents' hurt. And, as usual, he didn't disappoint, dishing out furious ground-and-pound until the referee had no other choice but to stop the bout and declare him the winner via technical knockout. It's back to the drawing board (again) for Bisping, while Belfort will likely have to continue winning impressively to earn a rematch with "The Spider" in the near future.
