Well Pat Healy didn't get his wish of a "big name" opponent, but at least he finally has a fight for the upcoming January 12, 2013 Strikeforce event in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Stepping in to face "Bam Bam" on short notice will be undefeated prospect Kurt Holobaugh, who currently holds a 7-0 professional record and will be making his Zuffa debut.
Healy mentioned earlier today that he had received an offer and MMA Weekly broke word of the fight.
Holobaugh will be Healy's third opponent for the upcoming Strikeforce event after champion Gilbert Melendez and former title challenger Jorge Masvidal both backed out with injuries.
While Holobaugh will facing by far the toughest opponent of his career, this isn't the first time he's attempted to reach the limelight. He tried out for The Ultimate Fighter season 15 and after making the initial cut, failed to secure a spot in the top 32 for the live opening episode.
He'll have an opportunity to redeem himself with what will almost be a guaranteed shot in the UFC should he get past Healy next Saturday night. It will be an interesting clash of styles as the Louisiana native is a submission based fighter while Healy prefers to take the fight to the ground.
What do you think of this fight, Maniacs?
Will Holobaugh give Healy a good test, or is this an opponent not worthy of the number one Strikeforce contender?
Sound off!
