Daniel Cormier calls out Frank Mir for UFC on FOX 7 fight on April 20, then warns Jon Jones he is going to 'kick his ass'

Daniel Cormier has signed a UFC contract and the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion is eager to make his Octagon debut opposite former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7, which takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., on April 20, 2013.

Just moments after his second-round technical knockout of Dion Staring in his final Strikeforce bout in Oklahoma City, Okla., last night (Jan. 12, 2013) Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier already suggested his first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fight.

"I signed my UFC contract," he shouted. "April 20 on FOX, Frank Mir, let's do it. It was supposed to happen, and we were supposed to fight in Oklahoma, so he owes it to me."

UFC on FOX 7 is scheduled for April 20, 2013, from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Cormier (11-0) has only been a mixed martial arts (MMA) professional for less than three years and is already one of the best fighters in the world. The former Olympic wrestler has finished eight of his 11 opponents in the first round and is rapidly developing his striking to the point where it is just as dangerous as his wrestling.

Being so green in the sport, Cormier is always a new and improved version of himself every time he competes.

After a highlight win over Josh Barnett earlier this year to win the Strikeforce Grand Prix title, Cormier would get a stern test in his Octagon debut against another former UFC champion, one that was originally scheduled to take place under the Strikeforce banner in Nov. 2012 before Mir had to bow out with an injury.

If the bout is re-booked, Mir (16-6) would be competing for the first time since failing to capture the UFC heavyweight championship from Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 in May 2012. Prior to the defeat, Mir had won three fights in a row, including the savage submission of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's arm at UFC 140.

Mir is the longest reigning active heavyweight on the UFC roster; however, he would have the tall task halting the rise of one of the heavyweight division's rising stars if and when he takes on Cormier, who also has a few words for Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.

"I'm going to let Jon defend his belt on April 27 [against Chael Sonnen], and then I'm going to kick his ass in the fall," Cormier vowed.

Bold.

No other match ups for UFC on FOX 7 have been announced at this time; however, a lightweight championship bout between Ben Henderson and Gilbert Melendez is rumored to serve as the main event.
