The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC on Fox 4: "Shogun vs. Vera," which took place on Sat., Aug. 4, 2012, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

With several of the night's bouts ended early (and violently) on the nationally televised fight card, there were more than a few fighters flagged for follow up visits to their doctors.

In fact, six of the eight main card fighters will be taking a break from mixed martial arts (MMA) for a while.

Chief among them is event headliner Mauricio Rua, who'll be out for 45 days due to precautionary reasons after an all-out war against Brandon Vera. Speaking of Vera, he's out 60 days due to a cut below his eye. .

The longest suspensions were dished out to main card fighters Mike Swick and Jamie Varner. Swick returned from a two and a half month layoff to win "Knockout of the Night" against DaMarques Johnson, and we might not be seeing him in action until 2013 unless his right ankle and elbow injuries are cleared by a physician.

Varner has also been suspended up to six months (180 days) after likely fracturing his right hand in his "Fight of the NIght"-winning performance against Joe Lauzon.

That's not all.

Here is the complete list of UFC on Fox 4 injuries and their medical instructions (via The Underground):

Mauricio Rua: suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons

Brandon Vera: suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons, and also suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact (or until cleared by physician) due to a suborbital cut

Ryan Bader: suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons

Jamie Varner: suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact (or until cleared by physician) for possible fractured right hand

DaMarques Johnson: suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons, and suspended indefinitely until given neurological clearance

Mike Swick: suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact (or until cleared by physician) for right-ankle and elbow injuries, and suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact for cut on right eyelid

Cole Miller: suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons, suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact (or until cleared by physician) for right-hand and left-middle-finger injuries, as well as a suborbital cut

Wagner Prado: suspended indefinitely or until cleared by opthamologist

Oli Thompson: suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact (or until cleared by physician) for a nasal fracture

John Moraga: suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact (or until cleared by physician) for a cut on his right eyebrow

Ulysses Gomez: suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons, and suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact (or until cleared by physician) for a cut on his forehead

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
