Talk about a quick turnaround
Just two weeks after veteran Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight Antonio Carvalho scored his first UFC victory, it has been announced that he will return to the Octagon in his native Canada. He'll be taking on TUF Brazil alumni and fellow veteran, Rodrigo Damm at the UFC 154 pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for Nov. 17, 2012 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Word of the match-up coming by way of Sherdog.
Carvalho (14-5) is coming off a huge knockout victory over Daniel Pineda in the opening bout of UFC 149. He had previously lost to Felipe Arantes at UFC 142 earlier this year in his Octagon debut. The Portuguese-Canadian is a 10 year veteran of the sport and has competed all over the globe in his lengthy career.
Can he repeat history?
Rodrigo Damm (10-5) is a former Strikeforce lightweight title challenger. He has experience against some of the best 155 pounders in the world and even beat Jorge Masvidal earlier in his career. After a very rough stretch in both Strikeforce and Sengoku, he reignited his career by dropping down to featherweight to compete on TUF Brazil.
On the show, Damm was victorious in his first two fights but medical issues forced him out of the competition in the semifinals. He handily defeated rival Anistavio Medeiros at UFC 147 via rear naked choke after dropping his opponent with strikes.
Who can keep the momentum rolling?
UFC 154 will feature a 170-pound showdown between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre vs. Carlos Condit, the UFC interim Welterweight Champion in the main event of the evening, while the next welterweight title challenger will be decided between Johnny Hendricks vs. Martin Kampmann.
And who could possibly not be looking forward to the heavyweight showdown between Brendan Schaub vs. Lavar Johnson or the middleweight matchup between Tom Lawlor vs. Francis Carmont.
