What you see above is a picture of one jacked up eye and a devastated Wagner Prado. The Octagon debutant ventured to the eight-sided cage for the first time in his career last night (Sat., Aug. 4, 2012) on the FUEL TV broadcasted preliminary card of the UFC on Fox 4: "Shogun vs. Vera" event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
88 seconds after the bout started, it ended. All because of Phil Davis and his big fat fingers (okay, maybe they're not big and fat).
During the course of the fight, Prado came in and Davis attempted to push him away. Unfortunately, with open handed gloves, that resulted in an eye poke that had the Brazilian seeing double. Because of that, the referee made the decision to call and end to the contest.
Talk about a first impression.
But the powers that be at UFC are nothing if not understanding and UFC President Dana White revealed at the post-fight press conference that an immediate rematch will be booked. Assuming Prado's eye is okay, the two could square off again at the upcoming UFC on FX 5 event scheduled for Oct. 5 in Minneapolis.
That event will be headlined by a heavyweight hustle pitting Antonio Silva vs. Travis Browne. For more on that fight card click here and for complete UFC on Fox 4 results and coverage click here and here.
