What does a tsunami warning have to do with mixed martial arts (MMA)?
There just so happens to be a major show going on right now, today (Aug. 31, 2012) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines, in Metro Manila, as ONE FC 5: "Pride of a Nation" is already underway with its online pay-per-view (PPV) fight card.
From MSNBC:
Tsunami warnings and alerts were issued Friday across a wide swath of Asia after a 7.6-magnitude undersea earthquake struck off the eastern Philippines, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
"Strong earthquake here in Taft, Eastern Samar! And it lasted very long too!" Samar congressman, Ben Evardone, told reporters via text message.
An official at the Philippines' Volcanolgy Institute said he expected damage had been caused in Samar province but he had yet to receive any reports.
"If you are anywhere near the coast I recommend that you head to higher ground," Paul Caruso of the USGS told Sky TV by telephone when asked about a threat of a tsunami hitting the coast of the Philippines.
The ONE FC 5 stream has not experienced any disruptions at this time and as they say in show business, "the show must go on." Continue to follow along with our live play-by-play right here.
