If you thought this wouldn't get any crazier, you've got another thing coming.
According to UFC President Dana White (via MMAFighting.com), he received a phone call from an interested party who offered to save UFC 151 from being cancelled after news broke that Dan Henderson was injured and Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones turned down a bout against Chael Sonnen.
That interested party? Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.
That's right, "The Spider" offered to fight "another light heavyweight," not Jones, on just eight days notice. He admitted he wasn't in the greatest shape just over one month removed from his victory over Sonnen at UFC 148 on July 7 but he was willing to step up to the plate and do his employers a solid.
As it turned out, he was too late. The decision had already been made to scrap UFC 151 and that decision was final.
Instead, as noted previously, UFC 151 is cancelled and Jones will fight Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC 152. Silva, presumably, will go back to enjoying his time away from the fight game.
Maniacs, how are your hearts holding up after all this?
