"The Bully" is hoping to continue his run back to the top of the 155-pound division.
But he'll have to get past "J-Lau" first. Former two-time Lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard has his next fight set for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at UFC 155. He'll be taking on fellow castmate of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season five, Joe Lauzon at the upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 29, 2012.
Word of the match-up came by way of UFC.com.
Maynard (11-1-1 1 NC) is a wrestler who has now fought 12 times under the UFC banner. He was undefeated throughout his career until a winless 2011 against Frankie Edgar in which one fight ended in a draw and then he suffered his first career loss at UFC 136 in a thriller.
The Xtreme Couture fighter got back on track by defeating Clay Guida in a very strange UFC on FX 4 main event earlier this year and is hoping a victory over Lauzon will put him back into title contention.
Lauzon (22-7) has been a fringe top 10 lightweight division for most of his career. He's always capable of putting on an incredible performance, as evidenced by his ridiculous amount of post-fight bonuses, but he's never been able to string together enough quality wins to be a title contender. He's hoping that will change if he can beat his fellow TUF season five alumni.
Lauzon defeated Jamie Varner in his most recent effort in a bout that won both "Fight of the Night" and "Submission of the Night" at UFC on Fox 4.
UFC 155 will feature the a heavyweight title rematch between champion Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez as well as a very interesting light heavyweight debut between Chael Sonnen vs. Forrest Griffin.
