The co-main event of the Strikeforce: "Rousey vs. Kaufman" fight card tonight (Sat., Aug. 18, 2012) at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California, featured Ronaldo Souza taking on Derek Brunson.
Both men came in with the belief that if they were to emerge victorious, they would have a strong case to make to be given the next title shot at current Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold.
Give "Jacare" his rematch.
The badass Brazilian deserves it after turning in the performance of a lifetime. Souza came into the evening having never knocked an opponent out. He did so tonight in under one minute, with a big counter shot that had Brunson seeing stars.
The referee gave Brunson every opportunity to recover and continue but he was gone.
Souza was the early aggressor, loading up the right hand and firing clean with it. Brunson backed off just long enough to gain his composure to rush in with a few punches of his own.
Unfortunately, for him at least, he had his chin high up in the air while doing so. "Jacare" came over the top with a strong counter right hand and it landed clean on the button.
While Brunson did his best to recover, Souza followed up with enough shots to send Brunson off to La La Land.
