First he replaced him, now he fights him.
After stepping in for an injured Yves Edwards to take on Donald Cerrone back at UFC on FUEL TV 3 on May 15, Jeremy Stephens is now booked to take on the "Thugjitsu Master" at the UFC on FX 5: "Browne vs. Bigfoot" on Oct. 5, 2012, in Minneapolis.
MMAWeekly.com brought word of the pending contest earlier today.
This is a matchmaker's delight because it's such an obvious pairing. Both men have lost two of their last three bouts but are highly entertaining scrappers who will undoubtedly add plenty of appeal to a free television card. The loser could find himself headed home with a pink slip but the fans win because it's almost guaranteed to be entertaining.
Stephens dropped his past two, to the aforementioned Cerrone and a close split decision to Anthony Pettis. Edwards, meanwhile, was last seen in Dec. 2011 dropping a decision to Anthony Ferguson.
UFC on FX 5, headlined by a heavyweight battle pitting Travis Browne vs. Antonio Silva, will also feature a featherweight fracas between former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) veterans Bart Palaszewski vs. Diego Nunes, as well as a welterweight throwdown between Aaron Simpson vs. Mike Pierce.
