Get ready for some Brazil on Brazil crime!
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga will return to the Octagon once again in his native Brazil. He'll be in a familiar situation taking on another Brazilian UFC newcomer in powerful knockout artist Geronimo Dos Santos at the UFC 153 pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for Oct. 13, 2012 at the HBSC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Word of the match-up coming by way of Brazilian media outlet Tatame.
Gonzaga (13-6) is coming off a first round submission victory over fellow UFC newcomer Ednaldo Oliveira at UFC 142 earlier this year. It was "Napao's" first fight in the UFC since being released from the promotion in late 2010 and briefly retiring from MMA. He was scheduled to fight at the all-heavyweight UFC 146 event but a training injury delayed his participation. Now, he'll be facing his second straight Brazilian UFC newcomer in a row in Brazil.
Deja vu anyone?
Geronimo Dos Santos (31-14) is one of the most active fighters in all of mixed martial arts. "Mondragon" enters the UFC riding a 10 fight winning streak which includes nine stoppages, eight of which took place in the first round. All 10 of those victories have come in the last 15 months.
All his fights haven't been walks in the park either as the Brazilian has squared off against the likes of current UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos and Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix runner-up Josh Barnet, albeit in losing efforts.
It'll be interesting to see how he fares in his promotional debut.
UFC 153 will feature a 145-pound showdown between UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo vs Erik Koch in the main event of the evening, while former 205-pound division champion Quinton Jackson will likely compete for the last time in the Octagon against fast-rising Brazilian banger Glover Teixeira.
And who could possibly not be looking forward to the middleweight showdown between top division contenders,Vitor Belfort vs. Alan Belcher, in the co-featured fight of the night.
