Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson wanted one more big fight before leaving the Octagon forever.
Now he's got one.
Stepping up to the plate to swing leather against "Rampage" is fellow 205-pound veteran Glover Teixeira, who will try to send the Memphis native back to the "River City" with his tail between his legs at the upcoming UFC 153 pay-per-view (PPV) event, currently scheduled for Oct. 13, 2012 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Globo's SporTV first reported the pending match-up earlier today.
Jackson (32-10) was originally prepped for a PRIDE rematch against Mauricio Rua, but opted out of the "Shogun" fight to have knee surgery in hopes of correcting nagging injuries that have plagued him in recent years. He's also coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his career, having been finished by Jon Jones at UFC 135 before Ryan Bader outpointed him at UFC 144.
In like a lion and out like a lamb?
Teixeira (18-2) finally made his Octagon debut at UFC 146: "Dos Santos vs. Mir" at the MGM Grand Garden Arena earlier this year in Las Vegas, Nevada, showing stateside fans what all the hype was about by choking out the venerable Kyle Kingsbury en route to a first round submission stoppage.
The win over "Kingsbu" marked 16 straight for the Brazilian, who has 16 finishes (including 11 knockouts) over his illustrious career. A victory over Jackson would no doubt springboard him to bigger and better opportunities within the division.
Time will tell.
No other bouts have been announced for UFC 153 at this time; however, stay tuned to MMAmania.com for all the latest and greatest updates as they become available.
