Before Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen lock horns in the main event of tonight's (Sat., July 7, 2012) UFC 148: "Silva vs. Sonnen 2" pay-per-view (PPV) in Las Vegas, Nevada, there are a few interesting clashes taking place on the main card to get you primed for the big fight.
Patrick Cote is making his Octagon return and hoping to impress against Cung Le, the former Strikeforce champion who is just here to have fun and feel honored to be on the card.
Cote knows what he's up against:
"Cung is a very tricky guy, very agile with his legs. He's doing some crazy tricks but I've brought some good south paw kickers in my camp and they were doing exactly what Cung is doing. I don't think he's going to bring anything new. That's his style. He likes to go very flashy and all, spinning back fists and spinning back kicks, but we're prepared for that and I can't wait to fight."
Le tells us to expect awesomeness:
"I'm very honored to be part of this UFC card, 148. I'm here to fight. I've been training hard and I feel great. All the fans can expect lightning followed by thunder. I have no quit."
But that's not all.
In welterweight action, Demian Maia invades the division with visions of grandeur. He was certainly given one hell of a test in his 170-pound debut, as he'll do battle against Dong Hyun Kim.
Maia feels great at his new weight and is ready to get it on:
"I feel great. I feel strong in this weight division. Of course there's a little bit more starving but it's okay, we are athletes, we need to pay the price. I think we are going to end up grappling in this fight because he is basically a grappler but he's a good stand up fighter also. He can kick well, he punches well. He lost just one fight and I want to make him lose the second one."
Kim, meanwhile, wants to please the fans as much as he wants to win:
"I haven't really thought about where the fight will put me in the division but it will definitely prove that my ground game is one at the top levels and I'm only thinking about this fight and not past this point yet. I'd love to compete with him on the ground but a lot of fans like the exciting fight so I'm going to try and show them something exciting."
Famous last words?
We're just hours away from showtime, Maniacs. All the hype and previews and predictions will be paid off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in "Sin City" soon enough.
