Viva Brazil!
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight phenom Diego Brandao is heading home for his next fight, a 145-pound match-up against fellow up-and-comer Joey Gambino at UFC 153 on Oct. 13, 2012 from the HSBC Arena in Rio.
That's according to a tweet from "Ceara" earlier today.
Brandao (14-8) won The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 season finale with a thrilling, come-from-behind submission win over Dennis Bermudez last December. He was expected to do great things inside the 145-pound division; however, Darren Elkins was able to weather his patented Brazilian bumrush at UFC 146 and held on for a unanimous decision victory back in May.
Time to get back on the horse.
Gambino (9-1) was beaten for the first time in his career when he made his Octagon debut at the UFC on FX 4 event just last month in Atlantic City, New Jersey, getting tangled and strangled by Steven Siler midway through the opening frame.
He may need this win -- or a "Fight of the Night" performance -- too keep his UFC dream alive.
UFC 153 will also feature a 145-pound showdown between UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo vs Erik Koch in the main event of the evening, while former 205-pound division champion Quinton Jackson will likely compete for the last time in the Octagon against fast-rising Brazilian banger Glover Teixeira.
