Invicta FC 2 results and LIVE fight coverage for 'Baszler vs McMann' TONIGHT (July 28)

Invicta Fighting Championships returns TONIGHT (July 28, 2012) to Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, with some high level women's fights.

MMAmania.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of Invicta FC 2 below, beginning with the main card at 9 p.m. ET. In addition, we'll deliver up-to-the-minute quick results of all the undercard action much earlier in the evening (beginning at 7:00 p.m.).

Headlining the main event of Invicta FC 2 will be a thrilling bantamweight bout which features veteran submission specialist Shayna Baszler and Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann.

Also on tap are some other extremely intriguing 135 pound bouts which feature fighters like Canada's Alexis Davis, former Strikeforce title contender Liz Carmouche, elite striker Kaitlin Young and even Brazilian powerhouse Amanda Nunes.

Lastly, undefeated Japanese grappler Ayaka Hamasaki takes on Lacey Schuckman in a 115-pound showdown.

135 lbs.: Shayna Baszler vs. Sara McMann

Round one: McMann opens with some nice short punches and a body kick but Baszler fires back with some kicks and hooks of her own. Both ladies trade leg kicks and McMann scores with a body kick. McMann dives in with a right hand and Baszler counters and lands a leg kick. They trade punches and Baszler scores with a body kick but McMann backs her off with a combination of punches. Big right hand from McMann cracks Baszler on the chin and Baszler clinches briefly to clear her head. McMann again lands a nice punch and she closes the distance hunting for a takedown against Baszler. Both ladies trade knees and McMann throws big body punches at the end of the round. 10-9 McMann

Round two: McMann steps forward and throws a big right hand that just misses and Baszler side-steps, landing a nice right hand and a kick. They trade leg kicks and Baszler throws a body kick which lands but McMann uses it to score a takedown. Baszler rolls from bottom and attacks McMann's heel and now she's on top. Baszler has a toe hold and McMann is landing right hands from bottom. Baszler drops for a knee bar but McMann deftly rolls free of danger. McMann is still on her back and Baszler is on top in her guard now. Baszler passes McMann's guard and McMann turtles and pops back to her feet with 45 seconds left. They trade big punches as time expires. 10-9 Baszler

Round three: McMann wings a big uppercut and Baszler counters. McMann steps in and lands a right hand and now both ladies trade a flurry of strikes with McMann getting the better of it. McMann lunges forward but eats a short left hook. McMann grabs a single leg and tosses Baszler to the ground but doesn't follow her. McMann steps in and lands a pair of right hands. She tries again and Baszler counters nicely with a left hand, then another. McMann shoots in and scores another takedown, taking Baszler's back and throwing big left hands. McMann fires off with huge left hands and Baszler's mouthpiece popped out. They clinch and McMann is on the inside firing off with knees to the thigh. The ref separates them and puts in the mouthpiece as both are reset in the cage center with 30 seconds left. Big right hand lands for McMann and then a right to the body. McMann throws a leg kick and both ladies trade punches until the final bell. Baszler rocks McMann and hurts her right at the bell. I don't think it was enough though. 10-9 McMann

Final result: Sara McMann defeats Shayna Baszler via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)

135 lbs.: Alexis Davis vs. Hitomi Akano

Round one: Akano opens with a body kick and she throws another which is caught. Davis catches her with a crisp 1-2 combo the next time she comes inside. Inside leg kick from Davis and a nice right hand backs Akano up. Akano tries to roll for a leg but she whiffs and now she's on her back. Davis kicks at her legs and Akano pops back to her feet. They clinch and Akano scores with a high kick on the exit. Nice body kick from Davis and a spinning back fist just misses from Akano. Akano tosses Davis over her shoulder but Davis stays with it and takes top position on the ground. Davis throws some knees to the shoulder but then pops back to her feet and forces Akano to stand with her. High kick lands from Akano and she charges in and eats a huge left hand from Davis. They clinch and Davis scores with right hands and a body kick on the exit. 10-9 Davis

Round two: Akano walks right into a huge right hand from Davis to start the round. Davis scores a takedown and is now in side control, dropping knees to Akano's side. Davis goes knee to belly and drops some big left hands onto Akano. Davis takes Akano's back and drops some more left hands. Davis takes Akano's back and had a body triangle now keeping her firmly in place. Davis is attacking with a rear naked choke and she's got the forearm almost all the way under the chin. Akano is struggling and she's forced to tap out!

Final result: Alexis Davis defeats Hitomi Akano via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:41 of round two

135 lbs.: Liz Carmouche vs. Kaitlin Young

Round one: Big straight right from Young early and Carmouche clinches looking for a body lock takedown. Young has inside position along the fence and forces a separation, no wshe's flashing out a left jab and mixing in some leg kicks. Young lands a very nice straight right to the jaw and Carmouche again looks for the takedown but Young reverses position and is on the inside pressing Carmouche into the fence. Young is throwing some short strikes on the inside and they break. Young backs Carmouche up and throws a nice leg kick but eats a right hand from Carmouche. Big exchange and Carmouche lands again while backing up. Young now has inside position as both are clinching. Carmouche scores a takedown in the final minute but can't do much with it. 10-9 Young

Round two: Young presses forward but Carmouche throws some big leg kicks. Young tries to respond but Carmouche scores a huge takedown directly into side control. Carmouche throws some heavy knees to the side and shoulder and Young retains guard. Carmouche throws some knees to the back of the thigh and Young attempts an omaplata but gives up her back in the process. Carmouche scrambles and gets back in side control. Nice elbow from Carmouche and now she's in full mount. Carmouche postures up and drops some big punches, she' spouring it on and Young tries to scramble free but gives up her back. Carmouche takes her back with both hooks in now and she's attacking Young's neck. Carmouche sinks in a rear naked choke and Young is forced to tap out.

Final result: Liz Carmouche defeats Kaitlin Young via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:34 of round two

115 lbs.: Ayaka Hamasaki vs. Lacey Schuckman

Round one: Huge haymaker from Schuckman just misses and Hamasaki scores a takedown. Schuckman throws up an armbar attempt but Hamasaki avoids danger. Hamasaki remains in guard and drops some punches. Schuckman is defending for now but is having trouble getting back to her feet. Hamasaki isn't passing guard but she's methodically grinding out the round. 10-9 Hamasaki

Round two: Hamasaki comes out quickly and lands a nice right hook. Hamasaki steps inside and throws a huge flurry of punches. Schuckman clinches but Hamasaki tosses her over her hip and lands in Schuckman's guard. Hamasaki drops some short punches after posturing up and Schuckman can't get back to her feet. Hamasaki stands up briefly and drops down into half guard. Hamasaki maneuvers herself and sets up the armbar with 15 seconds left. She really starts cranking on it but can't extend Schuckman's arm at the end of the round. 10-9 Hamasaki

Round three: Hamasaki immediately scores a takedown and postures up, dropping a huge flurry of hammer fists on Schuckman's face. She keeps up the pressure with brief hammer fists. She can't finish the fight with strikes on top and she instead is content to grind out from top. Hamasaki methodically transitions to an armbar attempt. She is having trouble breaking Schuckman's grip and briefly extends the arm but can't secure it. She extends the arm again with 15 seconds left and forces the tap!

Final result: Ayaka Hamasaki defeats Lacey Schuckman via submission (armbar) at 4:45 of round three

135 lbs.: Amanda Nunes vs. Raquel Pa'Aluhi

Round one: Big leg kick from Nunes to get things started and then another. Pa'Aluhi shoots in and takes Nunes' back immediately. Nunes tries to shake Pa'Aluhi off and escape out the back door but Pa'Aluhi is hanging on. Nunes is trying to scramble but Pa'Aluhi is attacking her neck. Nunes finally shakes her off and now she's attacking from behind. Nunes gets both hooks in and she sinks in a rear naked choke. Pa'Aluhi is hanging on but she gets choked unconscious and the ref stops the fight.

Final result: Amanda Nunes defeats Raquel Pa'Aluhi via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:24 of round one

135 lbs.: Sarah D'Alelio vs. Vanessa Porto

Round one: D'Alelio and Porto trade punches and Porto scores with a huge right hand. D'Alelio is reeling and Porto presses forward but D'Alelio staggers her with a big right hand of her own. Porto scores a huge takeodwn and immediately transitions to an armbar. D'Alelio remains composed and stsrts dropping right hands on Porto's head and Porto is forced to give up on the submission. Porto drives forward and scores a takedown but D'Alelio is threatening with a Kimura from her back. Now D'Alelio transitions to an armbar and Porto taps! Wow, that was amazing. Awesome fight.

Final result: Sarah D'Alelio defeats Vanessa Porto via submission (armbar) at 3:16 of round one

125 lbs.: Barb Honchak vs. Bethany Marshall

Round one: Marshall wings a head kick early and presses forward and Honchak grabs a reverse body lock and scores a takedown. Honchak gets both hooks in immediately and tries to flatten Marshall out but can't. She settles for some punches from behind. Honchak is all over Marshall's back still and postures up, dropping some punches. Marshall sweeps her though and avoids a triangle choke to take top position. Honchak scissor sweeps beautifully to get back in full mount but Marshall reverses and after a scramble, Honchak is on top in Marshall's closed guard. Honchak passes to side control. Honchak passes to full mount and she's postured up but Marshall again scrambles. Marshall turtles and now Honchak is back in full mount. Honchak drops big punches at the end of the round. 10-8 Honchak

Round two: Honchak opens strongly with a big flurry of punches and Marshall is getting overwhelmed. Honchak presses Marshall into the fence and Honchak is back in full mount. Honchak is dropping big punches and Marshall isn't fightin gback as the referee steps in and puts a stop to it.

Final result: Barb Honchak defeats Bethany Marshall via TKO (strikes from mount) at 1:22 of round two

145 lbs.: Julia Budd vs. Elina Nilsson

Round one: Big double leg takedown from Budd to get things started. Budd presses her against the fence on the ground and Nilsson tries to cagewalkback to her feet but is thwarted for now. Budd is now firmly in side control, puts knee on belly and passes to full mount. Budd starts dropping big punches and elbows as Nilsson covers up. Nilsson retains half guard but Budd again passes straight to mount. Budd keeps dropping elbows as Nilsson is only covering up and the ref stops it.

Final result: Julia Budd defeats Elina Nilsson via TKO (elbows) at 3:49 of round one
