Ulysses Gomez vs John Moraga booked for UFC on FOX 4 with Ian McCall injured

Well, this is "Useless."

Ulysses Gomez will make his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut at UFC on FOX 4, stepping in for the injured Ian McCall to take on fellow promotional newcomer John Moraga at the upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) event from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, on Aug. 4, 2012.

UFC made the announcement earlier this evening on its official Twitter.com account.

Gomez is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist who made a name for himself submitting dudes left and right en route to becoming the Tachi Palace Fights (TPF) Flyweight Champion. He briefly exited the promotion to enter the Bellator 135-pound tournament back in 2012, defeating Travis Reddinger via split decision in the opening round to advance against Zach Makovsky.

However, a staph infection would force him out of the tournament and back to TPF, where he would continue to perform well (2-1). Well enough, in fact, to earn an opportunity to compete inside the Octagon.

Moraga is 10-1 in his MMA career, with his lone defeat coming against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 champion John Dodson. The Arizona-based submission specialist is currently won four in a row, ending three of those wins by way of submission.

He'll need to be on top of his game if he intends to tap the Marc Laimon-trained mat specialist.

UFC on FOX 4 will feature the recently announced light heavyweight bout pitting Mauricio Rua vs. Brandon, Vera while Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida and Ben Rothwell vs. Travis Browne are also scheduled to live and die in L.A.
