This isn't funny anymore. It's not sad anymore, either. It's almost gotten to the point that injuries are the status quo and if an announced fight actually takes place, that should be considered a small miracle.
The latest casualty of the injury bug is Siyar Bahadurzada, who suffered an injury while training for his UFC 149 bout against Chris Clements. In his place, Matt Riddle will step up on short notice to keep the main card intact.
The UFC Twitter account announced the change last night:
UFC 149: oh sweet mercy.... Siyar out injured, new bout is Chris Clements vs Matt Riddle.
It seems UFC 149, the promotion's first trip to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sat., July 21, 2012, truly is cursed. Believe it or not, before all the injuries, this fight was Thiago Alves vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama.
It started as Alves vs. Akiyama then became Alves vs. Bahadurzada, then became Bahadurzada vs. Clements, before finally settling on Clements vs. Riddle. You can tell why Canadian fans are none too pleased with the situation.
And that's without mentioning Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch being moved, Mauricio Rua being taken off the card, Michael Bisping getting hurt, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira pulling out of his fight.
The wheels on the bus go round and round.
