UFC on FOX 4 results and LIVE fight coverage for 'Shogun vs Vera' on Aug. 4 in Los Angeles

It's almost time.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has put the finishing touches on its upcoming UFC on Fox 4 fight card scheduled for the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, TONIGHT (Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012).

UFC on Fox 4 will feature the light heavyweight showdown no one ever expected to see (though it may not be the one you want) when Mauricio Rua returns to the cage to take on "The Truth," Brandon Vera.

The co-feature of the evening will see former 205-pound champion Lyoto Machida look to put a halt to the resurrection of Ryan Bader before it can really start. Ben Rothwell and Travis Browne are also scheduled to hook 'em up in "The City of Angels."

Mauricio Rua vs. Brandon Vera (205-pound limit):

Round one: Vera opens with a kick and Shogun kicks him right back. Vera throws a knee and Shogun shoots in, taking him down instantly. Shogun quickly passes to half guard and he's on top, dropping a few short left hands. Shogun tries to pass guard and he finally gets to side control after some effort. He pins down an arm but Vera sits up and tries to get to his feet. Shogun scores with a knee to the shoulder and Vera pops to his feet and throws a few head kicks. Vera latches onto a guillotine and pulls guard. He hangs onto the guillotine and Shogun stays alive, slipping free as Vera gives up on it. From half guard, Shogun drops some big punches and Vera isn't offering much at the moment. Shogun passes to side control again and he takes Vera's back with both hooks in. Shogun drops some back fists and postures up to drop some strikes. Big left hand from Rua and Vera basically just defends from the turtle until time runs out. 10-9 Shogun

Round two: Huge leg kick from Rua staggers Vera. Shogun presses forward with a huge flurry of punches and knees and Vera is wilting along the fence. Vera almost goes down but he digs deep and fires back with a left hand and an elbow to back Shogun off. They reset and Vera scores with a straight left. Now Vera presses forward and he scores with some kicks and a right hand. Shogun looks tired. Big right hand and an elbow from Vera and Shogun resonds with a huge right hand which hurts Vera. Vera covers up and blocks some knees with his elbows. Shogun grabs Vera's head and drags him down. Shogun tries to take his back and throws uppercuts but Vera gets back to his feet and again lands a right hand. Big right hand from Shogun and Vera scores with an elbow and a right hand. They clinch and Shogun throws a knee but now Vera has the inside position. The crowd is chanting for Vera loudly. Vera scores a big takedown and he's on top in Shogun's half guard. Vera needs to do something or they'll be stood up. Vera throws a knee and some shoulder strikes. Vera postures up in the final 10 seconds and throws a punch at the horn. 10-9 Shogun

Round three: Vera throws a knee and Shogun presses him into the fence hunting for a takedown. Vera throws a knee and Shogun pushes him off. Push kick from Vera and Shogun fires back with a right hand. Vera throws a nasty combination, landing to the body and closing with a leg kick. Shogun scores with a left hand and initiates a clinch. Shogun lands a knee in the clinch and grabs a head lock. He scores a big knee to the body on the ground and then another. Vera eats an uppercut but gets back to his feet. Vera presses forward with a combination and scores with a huge leg kick. Another combination from Vera and he closes it with a leg kick. Head kick from Vera and a body kick, now a straight left. Shogun scores a takedown and Vera is stuck on his back. Shogun needs to do something on the ground or he'll get stood up. Shogun postures up and drops some punches and Vera tries to sweep but can't get off his back. Shogun did nothing on top. Screw it, 10-9 Vera

Round four: Shogun presses forward and scores with a hook on the way in. He's hunting for a takedown but Vera denies him. Big knee to the body and then to the head from Shogun. Vera grabs a Thai clinch and throws some short knees but he doesn't have a good angle. Shogun scores a right elbow and then separates. Vera presses forward to the body and then throws a leg kick. Big elbow from Vera and Shogun responds with a huge right uppercut and then clinching. Both men are completely exhausted. They trade big combinations and Shogun lands a big right hand. Vera is hurt and Shogun scores a huge flurry of punches. He lands a monster right hand and Vera is hurt. Vera is down. Shogun follows up with ground and pound and Herb Dean puts a stop to it. Daaamn.

Final results: Mauricio Rua defeats Brandon Vera via TKO at 4:09 of round four

Lyoto Machida vs. Ryan Bader (205-pound limit):

Round one: Machida playing paddycake early, all coiled and ready to strike. Machida fakes a kick and then flashes a side kick. Bader lunges in and lands some body punches before backing out. Bader swings and misses with a huge right hand. Body kick and straight left scores for Machida lightning quick. Nice knee to the body from Machida and then a body kick and Bader responds with a left hand over the top. Bader charges forwards and whiffs with a pair of punches. Front kick to the body from Machida and a slick counter right hand scores as Bader rushes in. Another front kick lands for Machida. Nasty right jab catches Bader clean on the way in. Bader is getting frustrated. Bader charges in again and gets tagged by Machida. Bader clinches and eats an elbow and can't score with anything on the inside. Machida scores with an elbow as Bader charges in right before the bell. 10-9 Machida

Round two: Machida looks so comfortable right now. Bader is so frustrated. He charges in and eats a huge straight right from Machida and Bader goes down like a sack of potatoes. He's done. Wow that was beautiful.

Final results: Lyoto Machida defeats Ryan Bader via knockout at 1:32 of round two

Jamie Varner vs. Joe Lauzon (155-pound limit):

Round one: They circle and Lauzon has control of the cage center but Varner fires off a nice body punch and then a kick to teh body. Huge right hand stuns Lauzon but he recovers. Another right hand to the body by Varner. Varner swings and misses with a monster right hand. Lauzon presses forward and he scores with a knee and backs Varner off with a combination but Varner fires right back. Flying knee from Varner and an elbow but they don't connect. Lauzon lands a left jab and a combination now. Varner is slowing down, not being very active. Big body kick from Varner. Varner throws heavy strikes and Lauzon covers up and fires back with a nice combo. Left hook to the body scores for Varner. Lauzon connects with a right hand but Varner backs him off with a big combination. Varner throws a right hand and Lauzon is hurt badly, Lauzon goes down but he immediately recovers and attacks with an inverted armbar. Varner throws a few knees to the body to finish the round. 10-9 Varner

Round two: Both men posture a bit early and Varner lands a couple leg kicks. Nice combination from Varner and Lauzon presses forward but Varner backs him off. Nice left hand over the top by Varner and Varner scores with repeated straight lefts. Huge leg kicks from Varner and Lauzon's leg buckles. Big right hand lands for Varner and then a knee. Solid elbow from Varner and he misses with a takedown attempt from a body lock. Lauzon shoots in for a single leg and Varner drops down for a guillotine. Lauzon escapes and takes his back but Varner stands up and slips free. Big combination from Varner and Lauzon just covers up to defend. Another combination from Varner and he scores repeatedly to the body. Now Lauzon turns it on and he presses forward with a huge flurry and Varner drops but he pops back to his feet. Lauzon pressures him in the clinch and he's hunting for a takedown but Varner is defending. Lauzon drags Varner to the ground and he's got his back with both hooks in. Lauzon transitions to full mount and he's looking for an arm triangle. Lauzon goes back to Varner's back and he slips off going for an armbar and Varner drops punches to end the round. Wow what a round. 10-9 Varner?

Round three: Big combination from Varner gets things started and he scores with elbows. Lauzon shoots in for a takedown and Varner stuffs him, throws a knee and separates. Varner shoots in for a takedown and he gets it. He's on top in half guard and he's got head and arm control. Lauzon sweeps and escapes to his feet, pressing forward and Varner throws a big combination. Big right hand from Varner and then a pair of nice straight lefts. Another combination from Varner and Lauzon covers up, eating some inside elbows. Varner again shoots in for a takedown and gets it but Lauzon sweeps him. Lauzon transitions to a triangle and he locks it in, Varner is forced to tap. WOW. That's a fight of the year candidate right there.

Final results: Joe Lauzon defeats Jamie Varner via submission (triangle choke) at 2:44 of round three

Mike Swick vs. DaMarques Johnson (170-pound limit):

Round one: Swick opens and cracks Johnson with a huge right hand. They clinch and Johnson has recovered. Swick scores another right hand but not as badly, then a left. Now Johnson is pressing forwards and he lands a couple right hands of his own. They clinch and Swick throws a right knee and loses his balance. Now Johnson is on top and he drops down a right hand. Swick gets back to his feet and now he's throwing punches in bunches and Johnson is eating shots along the fence. Johnson fires back and scores a takedown. He passes to full mount on the ground and Swick tries to escape but can't. Swick turns to his side and he's avoiding most damage. Swick hip escapes back to half guard and Johnson is hunting for a D'Aarce choke. He looks like he might have it and he gives up on it. Now he's hunting for it again but Swick defends and is back to full guard now. Johnson might have stolen the round with his grappling. 10-9 Johnson

Round two: Swick wings a right hand and Johnson backs him up with a few right hands of his own. Swick sweeps out Johnson's leg and BLASTS Johnson with a huge right pair of right hands. Johnson eats them and he's done! Johnson is out cold.

Final results: Mike Swick defeats DaMarques Johnson via knockout at 1:20 of round two

Cole Miller vs. Nam Phan (145-pound limit):

Round one: Head kick by Miller. Good jab by Miller. Another front kick in the face by Miller. Good jab by Miller again. Phan having trouble getting inside the range. Miller continues to land jabs with precision. Inside leg kick by Phan. Phan with a nice combo, ending on a right hook to the body. Phan becoming more aggressive now. Good left hand by Miller. Miller gets off with a nice combo. Strong jab by Miller. Miller continues to stay on the outside and keep Phan at bay. all the while landing a good number of kicks and jab. Phan with a good combo, finishing with a left hook. Another good left hook by Phan. Phan with a big right hand. Miller with the head kick to brush him back. Phan tees off with a big multi punch combo. Head kick by Miller. Good jab by Miller. Phan lands again with the left hook. One minute left. Phan with a good combo. Inside leg kick by Phan. Miller with the body kick. Miller with a couple of nice right hands, back to back. Phan closes the distance and throws another really nice combo. Really close first round. 10-10 draw.

Round two: Miller working the jab. Another big left hook by Phan. Good right hand by Miller. Good uppercut by Miller. Good left hook to the body by Miller. Jab and a left hook by Miller. Body kick by Miller. Miller goes to the body again with the hook. Leg kick by Phan. Front kick by Miller. Miller with a good combo. Two nice left hooks in a row by Miller, answered by Phan with a combo. Phan coming forward. Good jab by Phan. Very solid left hook by Miller. Phan catches a kick and responds with a combo. Halfway through the round. Phan with a decent combo. Good left hook by Phan. Miller with the front kick to the head. Solid body strike by Phan. Miller with a good combo, looking a little winded. Miller with a nice counter combo. Miller throws several consecutive jabs that pop Phan's head back. Miller starting to look much more comfortable in the exchanges. Very good jab by Miller. Round three: Good jabs by Miller. Front kick to the body by Miller. Phan with a solid several punch combo. Miller looks staggered for a second, but recovers. Phan with another big combination. Head kick by Phan misses. Good left hook by Miller. Miller with a hard leg kick. Hard left hook by Phan. This is really turning into a war in this the final round. Solid jab, followed by a right hook from Phan. Phan with another really solid left hook to the body. Another left hook by Phan, this time to the head. phan rushes in with a combo but eats a hook on his way out. Miller with a right hook to the temple. Miller with a nice 1-1-2 combo. Phan with a good clean combo. Two minutes left. Miller sticks a brutal left hook to the body. Miller with a flurry of punches. Good counter hook by Phan. Miller responds with a hook of his own, then another. A minute and a half left. Big uppercut by Miller narrowly avoids its target. Miller is loading up with some homerun swings that are just barely missing. Two big jabs in a row by Miller who is really pouring it on now. Jump front kick by Miller to the body. Thirty seconds left. Miller with several more jabs. Knee glances off the side of the head by Miller. 10-9 Miller.

Final results: Nam Phan via split decision

Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado (205-pound limit):

Round one: Prado comes forward in a low stance, pawing with the jab. Prado throws a big left hand that misses. Front head kick by Davis. Prado misses with the head kick. Prado with another high kick. Big right hook by Prado has Davis going backwards. Another big right by Prado and Davis hits him with a nasty eyepoke while extending his left hand. Prado will need a few minutes to recover, as he clearly has blood coming out of his eye. The doctor calls an end to it. Prado is screaming in dismay as he does not want the fight to stop. Very odd and unfortunate stoppage.

Final results: Fight declared a No Decision due to accidental eyepoke by Phil Davis

Rani Yahya vs. Josh Grispi (145-pound limit):

Round one: Yahya rushes in and eats a combo right away. Yahya rushes in again and takes a leg kick and another combo. Yahya shoots, once more and eats several mosre punches. Grispi avoids any damage and the takedown. Grispis circles off and Yahya finally scores the takedown and is inside his guard. Not where Grispi wants to be. Yahya trying to pass, Grispi doing a good job of controlling him. Grispi goes for a kimura momentarily while Yahya gets one leg free and almost gets to side control. Half guard. Yahya finally passes as is in side control with lots of time left in the round. Yahya transitioning, trying to get in north south position for a choke. He's almost got it in. Grispi is in trouble. He sinks it in and Grispi taps! Yahya wins by submission!

Final results: Rani Yahya via submission (north-south choke) at 3:15 of round one

Philip De Fries vs. Oli Thompson (265-pound limit):

Round one: De Fries paws with the jab. Thompson rushes in and throws a big left hand. He blitzes in again and eats a big right from De Fries. Thompson ties up against the fence, looking for underhooks. De Fries reverses. De Fries drops down then rises back up. Referee warns for inactivity. Dirty boxing on the fence by both fighters. Big John breaks them up, back to center. Good right hand by Thompson. De Fries walks through it and ties him up again. De Fries leaning on Thompson on the cage. Thompson reverses and uses dirty boxing. De Fries circles off and reverses then drops down for the single leg takedown. Thompson scrambles and gets back up, landing a nice right hand on the way up. De Fries ties him up again on the fence. Knees by Thompson with his back to the fence. A minute and a half to go. De Fries clinches then lands a good knee to the body. Thompson reverses, then De Fries reverses him right back. John McCarthy breaks them up and it's back to center. Good right hand by De Fries. De Fries shoots for the power takedown, but Thompson is able to defend. Twenty seconds left and De Fries has him on the fence, tangled up, where most of this round has been spent -- much to the dismay of the L.A. crowd. 10-9 De Fries.

Round two: Thompson comes forward with a combo. Good inside leg kick by Thompson. De Fries throwing punches, and he lands a big right hand! Thompson is hurt! De Fries is all over him with punches and gets close to taking his back. Thompson, somehow, recovers and gets back to his feet. De Fries has him pressed against the cage. Good elbow by De Fries from in close. De Fries drops down for the takedown, Thompson defends with the wide base. Good combo by De Fries. Knee to the body by De Fries. Another good combo by De Fries. Thompson answers a nice right hand. Back to center. Both fighters look exhausted. Good knee by De Fries, who, then, charges through for a takedown. He's got his back. Thompson turtles up. This could be bad news for Oli. Punches from the top by De Fries. De Fries looks to get a hook in. Just under two minutes left. De Fries has one hook in and is using hammerfists to soften him up. De Fries continues to pummel under. A minute left. De Fries gets the hooks in and has his back. He's sinking in the choke. He's got it! It's all over! Submission win for De Fries!

Final results: Philip De Fries via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:16 of round two

Round one: Omigawa comes out circling quickly. Very active in his movement. Gamburyan sits in the pocket patiently waiting. Gamburyan with the leg kick. Leg kick by Omigawa. Gamburyan sitting in a low stance with his hands low as well. Out of nowhere, Gamburyan throws a big flying knee! Omigawa recovers and rocks Gamburyan with a big left hand! Gamburyan back to his feet. Omigawa with an inside leg kick to a left hook. Big right hand in response by Gamburyan. Body shot by Gamburyan. Good straight left by Omigawa. Another straight left to the body by Omigawa. Head kick by Gamburyan. Good straight left by Omigawa. Gamburyan with a nice left hook. Body shot by Omigawa. Straight right by Gamburyan. Omigawa rushes in with a combo and gets back out. Good left hand by Omigawa. Gamburyan shoots but can't get the takedown. Omigawa with a nice left and then he avoids a big hook by Gamburyan. 10-9 Omigawa.

Round two: Omigawa starts off with a nice left hook. Both fighters stand toe to toe and are exchanging furiously. Omigawa walks him down. Big left hook by Gamburyan. Gamburyan shoots. Omigawa defends and tries for a standing choke. Gamburyan is out of it and still trying to take him down against the fence. Omigawa continues to keep a wide base and avoid being taken to the canvas. Referee warns for action. Gamburyan gets the leg and he has him down, but only for a moment as Omigawa gets right back up. Gamburyan with the big power slam. Omigawa right back up again. Gamburyan holding onto an underhook. Good knee by Gamburyan and he slams him again. Gamburyan takes his back and tries to sing the hooks in. Lots of time left here in the second round. Omigawa using wrist control to defend against a submission. Gamburyan continues to try and separate the hands to get the arm under the chin. Omigawa is able to get out but Gamburyan stays on top, now working inside Omigawa's guard. Omigawa inches to the fence and uses it to walk back up. Gamburyan stays on him and lands a big right hand as Omigawa circles off and back to center. Just under a minute to go. Big left hook by Gamburyan barely misses. outside leg kick by Omigawa, somewhat inconsequential. Good jab to the head by Gamburyan. 10-9 Gamburyan.

Round three: Good left hook by Gamburyan. Good sweep kick by Omigawa. Gamburyan answers with a huge kick and then a combo! Gamburyan hunting! Omigawa looks wobbled! Omigawa recovers and their back going toe to toe! What a fight! Omigawa with a nice combo, then another. Gamburyan looks gassed. They tangle up on the fence as Omigawa looks to sweep and take him down. Gamburyan gets free. Good left hand by Omigawa. Omigawa starting to get off here. Omigawa ties him up. Gamburyan reverses and drops down for a possible takedown. Omigawa sprawls, but the persistent Gamburyan eventually gets him down. Omigawa slinks out and gets right back to his feet. Gamburyan tries for the takedown again and he gets it. Omigawa using the fence to try and get back up. Gamburyan holds onto the hips and gets a big power slam. Omigawa gets back up but Gamburyan still has his hips. Juts over a minute left. Gamburyan with a big slam, straight to side control. Omigawa quickly escapes and gets back to his feet. Omigawa has Gamburyan pinned on the fence now and is going for a choke. He might be able to get this. Gamburyan slips free. Head kick attempt by Gamburyan slides off the shoulder. 10-9 Gamburyan,

Final results: Manny Gamburyan via unanimous decision

Ulysses Gomez vs. John Moraga (125-pound limit):

Round one: Fighters meet in the middle and start exchange jabs and find the distance. Body shot by Moraga. Moraga pushing the pace now. Left hook by Moraga. Good inside leg kick then a body kick by Moraga. Gomez rushes in and Moraga initiates the clinch, landing an immediate knee to the body. Gomez is cut. Moraga circles away and throws a big kick. Moraga with a nice combo. Moraga continues to buckle the knee with hard leg kicks. Good straight right hand to the body by Moraga. Nice left hook by Moraga. Gomez shoots after eating a body kick but he is stuffed with ease. Halfway through round one. Hard outside leg kick by Moraga. Gomez catches it on the way out and ties him up. Gomez presses the action up against the cage. Moraga gets free and circles back to the center of the cage. Moraga with a big left hook. Good straight right to the body again by Moraga. Moraga clinches and lands a big elbow, then a huge uppercut! Gomez is out! It's all over! KO win for John Moraga!
