Before I start, I just want to get something out of the way.
I haven't exactly been Nostradamus lately. It's been an unfortunate run when it comes to recent picks, and for that I truly apologize. I don't advise any bets I don't/wouldn't make myself. I'm not mad about losing my own money, but I don't want to be the reason somebody else loses theirs.
Therefore, proceed with caution. Now, onto your regularly-scheduled UFC betting guide.
Later tonight (June 23, 2012), the injury-riddled UFC 147 will make its way to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, with a card full of legends past, present and future.
In the main event, Pride FC legend Wanderlei Silva will look to get revenge on former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Rich Franklin, who defeated "The Axe Murderer" by decision back at UFC 99.
Fabricio Werdum will also look to continue his climb up the Heavyweight ladder at the expense of Mike Russow, while the card will also serve as the finale for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Brazil," with the two finals gracing the pay-per-view (PPV) main card and the show's alumni loading the "Prelims" under card.
Join us after the break for an in-depth look at the odds behind UFC 147 as we examine the betting lines for the upcoming MMA match ups:
UFC 147 Odds For The Under Card:
Felipe Arantes (-150) vs. Milton Vieira (+120)
Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini (-250) vs. Wagner Campos (+190)
Hugo Viana (-220) vs. John Texeira (+170)
Rodrigo Damm (-185) vs. Anistavio Medeiros (+155)
Delson Heleno (-165) vs. Francisco Drinaldo (+135)
Thoughts: Damm’s your man.
While I’m somewhat concerned about the weight-cutting trouble he had on TUF: "Brazil" (and the fact that his chin could politely be described as "meh") I just don’t see how "Gasparzinho" stays off his back here, or how he survives once he’s there. His domain is the ground, but Damm has him beat there by a sizeable margin. Damm at less than -200 just strikes me as a phenomenal bargain.
The other guy who is worth a look is "Wolverine," Hugo Viana. Even if Teixeira hadn’t come in four pounds over the limit, Viana’s the faster and stronger of the two and packs the submission defense to survive "Macapa’s" grappling attack. Stick him in a parlay, perhaps with Vinicius "Vina" on the basis of Wagner Campos being phenomenally mediocre.
UFC 147 Odds For The Main Card:
Rich Franklin (-155) vs. Wanderlei Silva (+125)
Fabricio Werdum (-600) vs. Mike Russow (+400)
Iuri Alcantara (-250) vs. Hacran Dias (+190)
Cezar Ferreira (-280) vs. Sergio Moraes (+220)
Rony Mariano Bezerra (-340) vs. Godofredo Castro (+260)
Thoughts: This feels like an enormous cop-out, but I just don’t see much value here. Pretty much all of the underdogs here are enough of a threat to make betting on the favorites ill-advised, but they’re still underdogs for a reason. If you feel the burning desire to bet on the main card, put your money on Franklin (who I think will win and which will mitigate the misery of a Silva defeat should it pay out).
UFC 147 Best Best:
- Parlay: Hugo Viana and Rodrigo Damm -- Bet $50 to make $61.50
- Parlay: Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini and Rodrigo Damm -- Bet $50 to make $58
- Single bet: Rich Franklin -- Bet $80 to make $51.61
It ain't stacked with names, but that doesn't mean we don't have some slobberknockers waiting for us this Saturday.
See you later, Maniacs.
