UFC on Fox 4 just got a little bit beefier.
Former British strongman competitor Oli Thompson, who came up short in his promotional debut against Strikeforce veteran Shawn Jordan at UFC on FX this past March, will get an opportunity for redemption when he battles fellow UK heavyweight Phil De Fries at the UFC on FOX 4 event scheduled for the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., on Aug. 4, 2012.
MMA Weekly brought word of the heavyweight booking earlier today.
Thompson (9-3) saw his five fight winning streak snapped by Jordan just two months ago in a bout where he was simply outgunned by a more powerful and more technically sound striker on the feet.
Can he earn his first UFC victory against his fellow countryman?
De Fries (8-1 1 NC) suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of stalwart slugger Stipe Miocic at UFC on Fuel TV this past February. He connected with some nice shot but his chin couldn't withstand the the Croatian-American's power, getting knocked out in just 43 seconds.
He was actually originally slated to face Thompson for his promotional debut last November at UFC 138 before an injury to the ex-strongman altered the fight. Now both men will finally be able to discover who's the better man.
No pressure.
UFC on FOX 4 is expected to feature the recently announced middleweight bout of Hector Lombard vs. Brian Stann. Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida and Terry Etim vs. Joe Lauzon are also scheduled for the "City of Angels."
