Octagon debut, take two.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has a new fighter appearing at the UFC 149 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 21, 2012 and he's a pretty "Big Deal."
Ryan Jimmo, of Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) fame, will make his highly-anticipated debut against Anthony Perosh when the UFC makes the trip to "Cowtown," according to Sportsnet.ca. Jimmo was pounded out in his very first fight back in 2007 before erupting for a 16-fight winning streak, where he now stands at 16-1.
He was expected to get his feet wet against Karlos Vemola on the UFC on FX 1 fight card back in January; however, a pesky injury forced him to postpone his long-awaited debut until the summer.
Second time's the charm?
Standing in his way is Perosh, who was fed to Mirko Filipovic on short notice at UFC 110 just over two years ago.
"The Hippo" has since returned to his more natural weight class of 205 pounds and subsequently rattled off three consecutive victories -- all of them coming by way of submission or technical knockout.
Anyone think the Aussie can play spoiler when the promotion heads north of the border?
UFC 149 is expected to be headlined by a featherweight title fight pitting champion Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch. Other bouts announced for the upcoming Calgary card include Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cheick Kongo, Thiago Alves vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Nick Ring vs. Court McGee.
