If (suspicion of) drunk driving doesn't boot Ross Pearson from a UFC fight card, it certainly won't be enough to get Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones removed, either.
That was one of the big questions for promotion president Dana White, who recently confirmed that "Bones" will still defend his 205-pound strap against Dan Henderson at the UFC 151 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the Mandalay Bay Events Center on September 1, 2012.
White breaks it down for MMA Weekly:
"He is fighting ... it won’t affect the date. But how it will affect him in the fight, I have no idea, we’ll see. I'm not involved in all the legal stuff that's going on with Jones, but yeah, he flew out a few nights ago and sat down with me and Lorenzo and talked. I like Jon Jones. He's a good guy, he's a young kid. He made a mistake that night and we'll see what happens."
Jones is expected to appear in front of New York's Binghamton City Court tomorrow (May 29, 2012) after crashing his Bentley into a utility pole and getting charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
It's time to see if the champ, who has the support of Mike Tyson, will indeed "stand up like a man," as promised.
Hear more from White (after the jump) on the future of Jones and whether or not the recent rash of employee arrests will prompt the promotion to institute a professional code of conduct policy.
