Well, well ... what have we here?
Mike Swick will return from the Land of the Lost and battle DaMarques Johnson at UFC on Fox 4: "Stann vs. Lombard," which is slated to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., on Aug. 4, 2012.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced the Welterweight bout this afternoon.
Swick has been on the shelf for more than two years, battling multiple injuries (knee) and maladies (esophageal spasm) that caused many mixed martial arts (MMA) fans to assume his fight career was cut short.
Swick was supposed to make his long-awaited return against Erick Silva at UFC 134 on Aug. 27, 2011, in Brazil. The aforementioned health issues, however, forced his removal from the fight card. "Quick" has been out of action since a submission loss to Paulo Thiago in Feb. 2010, which was his second in a row.
The American Kickboxing Academy product was on the wrong end of a unanimous decision loss to Dan Hardy in his previous outing, which snapped a four-fight win streak.
His return sure beats poker.
Johnson, meanwhile, has been quite active; however, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 finalist has been the model of inconsistency since a technical knockout loss to Matt Riddle back in Aug. 2012. Since that time, "Darkness" has won two of four fights, failing to string them back-to-back.
If current trends continue, Johnson -- who is looking to rebound from a recent submission loss to John Maguire at UFC on Fuel TV 2 just last month -- will emerge victorious.
Time will tell ... hopefully.
UFC on FOX 4 will feature the recently announced middleweight number one contender showdown between Hector Lombard vs. Brian Stann. Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida, Terry Etim vs. Joe Lauzon and Matt Mitrione vs. Rob Broughton are also scheduled to scrap in the "City of Angels."
