Move over Super Fight League, you're no longer the top dog in India's mixed martial arts (MMA) scene.
That's because ZUFFA, parent company of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), today announced a multi-year partnership with Multi Screen Media (MSM) -- a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Television -- to broadcast UFC programming in India on MSM’s new sports channel "SIX."
From UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta via today's release:
"When we went to India over a year ago I felt the market held enormous potential for the UFC. India has a long history of martial arts and traditional wrestling like Kushti. Indian athletes have also demonstrated world-class levels in combat sports as evidenced by the country’s 2008 Olympic medalists in wrestling and boxing."
The programming deal includes live UFC events as well as pre-recorded specials from the ZUFFA tape library. In addition, fans can now access separate exclusive content at Facebook India and UFC Twitter India by clicking here and here.
Could a UFC live event in India be far behind?
Stay tuned.
