It's getting down to the nitty gritty for Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) reality series, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15. After last night's episode there's only one more fight until we've whittled it down to the final eight competitors.
This week's episode saw coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber continue their juvenile bickering, but in episode eight, there was a girl involved, thus upping the ante.
Everyone's favorite armbar queen, Ronda Rousey, appeared as a special guest coach for "Team Cruz." Her presence seemed to fuel the collective testosterone of both coaches, yet, disappointingly, the fellas in the TUF house had no idea what to do with the opportunity when "Rowdy" visited to watch UFC 145 with them in their den.
In the LIVE fight, Sam Sicilia and Chris Saunders put on one of the better fights in recent TUF history, but Saunders was able to do enough in the judges' eyes to secure a decision victory after two gutsy rounds.
After the jump, we'll take a look at the TUF 15 episode 8 post-fight power rankings:
There were a couple slight changes in the rankings this week. In addition to Sicilia being knocked out of the competition and, consequently, out of the rankings, Saunders catapulted over Mike Rio with his episode eight win.
It was a combination of Saunders' impressive win and how irritating Rio and his recurring knee problems are. Andy Ogle and Rio will battle it out next week, which is a good news-bad news scenario:
The good news -- One of the two most annoying cast members will lose.
The bad news -- One of the two most annoying cast members will win.
I'll tell you what's not annoying, and that's the power rankings for TUF 15 after eight complete episodes:
(Note: The numbers in parenthesis indicate each fighter's ranking from the previous week.)
1) Justin Lawrence (1)
2) Al Iaquinta (2)
3) Joe Proctor (4)
4) James Vick (5)
5) Michael Chiesa (6)
6) Vinc Pichel (7)
7) Chris Saunders (9)
8) Mike Rio (8)
9) Andy Ogle (10)
Sam Sicilia (RIP)
After next week, the pairings for the quarterfinals of TUF 15 will be set. It's been an action-packed season with one of the most talented collections of fighters we've seen in the history of the show. What this season has lacked in pranks and fecal matter, it's certainly made up for with head-jarring striking and wars inside the Octagon.
Make sure you tune in next week to see which fighter will advance and who will be eliminated. One thing is for sure, with Rio and Ogle involved, tears will be shed. You can take that to the bank.
