Wrestlemania 28 results and live matches coverage for John Cena vs The Rock in Miami

Tonight's the night.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is all set to pull the trigger on its WrestleMania 28 pay-per-view (PPV) extravaganza tonight (Sun., April 1, 2012) at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.

I know what you're thinking: "What is this doing on an MMA site, then?" Well, as it turns out, not only is there a gigantic crossover appeal (like it or not), but the one and only Brock Lesnar could very well show up to crash the party.

The same Brock Lesnar, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion, who just recently retired from mixed martial arts (MMA).

Tonight's event features a main event match more than one year in the making, as "The Rock" returns to the WrestleMania ring for the first time in seven long years to take on the biggest star in the business today, John Cena.

First match of the night: Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan-

Bryan gets a good luck kiss from AJ, only to turn around into a vicious Brogue Kick from Sheamus.

New World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus.

In the back now, Team Johnny getting psyched up for their match. The Miz couldn't get anything other than a few bad looks, and Mr. Laurinaitis, in a brilliant suit, does a much better job. Team Johnny, let's roll out.

Next up: Kane vs. Randy Orton-

Solid punches from Orton to start us off. Kane reverses and takes control. Off the ropes and Orton has to fight out of a chokeslam. Working over Kane's leg now, trying to wear the beast down. Draping DDT attempt but the Big Red Machine breaks out to power Orton to the mat. Near fall gets 2.

Kane has Orton in a sleeper hold. Orton, with some help from the crowd, works his way up and starts trading shots with Kane. Kane gets the better of it and goes for another pin. 2 count. Kane with more of his way, gets a side slam and another near pin fall. Working on Orton's neck again, really trying to wear down the Viper.

Up again and Orton hits a swinging neckbreaker. Tries to start his own offense but Kane reverses once more. Does some damage and, again, only gets a 2 count on the pin attempt. Another sleeper, this time the crowd really getting into it. Orton gets up and ends up hitting a sweet backbreaker for a moment to rest up. Orton goes for a clothesline and Kane wont go down. Off the ropes and a power slam from Orton on Kane. Hits the Draping DDT this time, and now it's time for the RKO. Kane pushes him away and hits a big boot that gets yet another 2 count.

Kane going up top now. Jumps right into a dropkick! Orton looking for the boot but gets caught in a chokeslam.

1! 2! Orton kicks out! Kane is stunned, looking at the ref in disbelief.

After a rest period, Orton ends up going for the RKO again, but gets pushed away. On the ropes now, Kane power chokeslams Orton and gets the pin.

Kane defeats Randy Orton.

Backstage with Santino Marella, along with Mick Foley, hanging with a someone from the Deadliest Catch. A lot of crab on the table in front of them. They do some jokes with Mr. Socko and the Cobra until Ron Simmons shows up with a resounding "DAMN!"

Hilarious.

Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show-

Another amazing video clip of Big Show's failures at past WrestleMania's.

Rhodes running away to start, catches Big Show off guard but Big Show takes over quickly. In the corner Big Show does his trademark "shh" and chest slap. Ouch. Show has his way in the beginning. Rhodes taking over now and working on the legs of the big man.

Show up now and working on Rhodes. Some awesome moves off the ropes and Rhodes jumps into a spear. WMD and this match is done.

Big Show defeats Cody Rhodes to win the intercontinental title.

Maria Menounos and Kelly Kelly vs. Eve and Beth Phoenix-

Early offense from Kelly Kelly. Works Eve to the corner and tags in Maria. Now Eve is working on Maria, really hitting her injured ribs. Beth Phoenix tags in and is dominating Maria Menounos. Eve comes in and starts taunting, only to get kicked to the outside. Hot tag to Kelly Kelly and she comes in beating on Beth Phoenix.

Eve still on the outside, she might have actually gotten hurt.

Kelly Kelly with a big move off the top rope, almost gets the pinfall but Eve interferes. Maria gets tagged in and starts her way up to the top rope. Beth grabs her and has her up in the air. Kelly Kelly pulls her down and they roll it into a pinfall for the win.

Maria Menounos and Kelly Kelly def. Eve and Beth Phoenix.

The Legendary Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels being interviewed now. He goes on to talk about how he has control of the "End of an Era". Either Triple H or the Undertaker will fall, and it's in his hands.

Jim Ross is here! Justin Roberts introduces him and good ol' JR is coming down to announce the next match.

Undertaker vs. Triple H-

Shawn Michaels is the guest referee for this Hell in a Cell matchup.

After a lengthy entrance, Undertaker finally takes off his hood to reveal a shaved head. Now they stare each other down. And now, the Hell in a Cell comes down over them.

Trading hard punches in the middle of the ring. They are going to leave it all out there tonight. To the outside and Triple H gets hit by a back body drop. 'Taker is controlling the action now. Pounding on The Game, and throws him into the cage and the stairs.

Off to a beautiful start.

Back in the ring and Triple H is battling back. Facebuster but Undertaker is unaffected and hits a clothesline. Attacking the arm of Triple H and now he is walking the ropes, like the Undertaker of old. To the outside once more and 'Taker uses the stairs to brutalize Triple H. Busting him up and really getting the crowd into it.

Inside the ring and Trips takes over. Now he is hitting 'Taker on the stairs. A pedigree attempt from HHH gets reversed.

HHH hits a huge spinebuster on the steel steps! 'Taker catches HHH in the Hell's Gate but gets powerbombed for it. Now the chair is in play and HHH is hitting hard. Trips leans the stairs in the corner and throws Undertaker into them. More chair shots to the back of the Undertaker. That was at least 10 hits to his back. Shawn tries to get him to stop but HHH just pushes away and hits him a few more times. Shawn is yelling for HHH to just pin him but Trips won't.

A few more chair shots and finally Trips goes for the cover. 1...2... And Undertaker kicks out! Another chair shot and now Triple H is going to get the sledgehammer. He keeps yelling at Michaels to finish this and ring the bell. But 'Taker will not give up. A sledge to the head of Undertaker and again the pin only gets 2.

HHH goes for a HUGE hit with the sledgehammer but Shawn pulls it away. Michaels wants to end this, but Undertaker refuses to give in. Now Undertaker puts Shawn Michaels in the Hell's Gate!! He only lets up when Triple H hits him with the sledgehammer!

Amazing match!

Hell's Gate on The Game now while Michaels is down. Trips is reaching for the sledgehammer but has faded down. Triple H is out cold, but so is Shawn Michaels. A new ref comes running down but the gate is locked. He unlocks it and comes in as Triple H comes to and walks into a chokeslam.

1...2...Kickout!!

A furious Undertaker chokeslams the new ref. 'Taker turns into a sweet chin music and then a pedigree!

But again kicks out!! He will not give up!!!

Shawn is in disbelief. Triple H is going for the sledgehammer again, but Shawn stops him only to get thrown out for his trouble. 'Taker sits up and Trips falls down! Lot of work from the Undertaker now. He picks up HHH and tombstones him. Michaels in the ring for the count, but Triple H kicks out!!!

Michaels can't believe this. Triple H and Undertaker are battling from their backs, trying to stand up, just trading shots. Another Pedigree from Trips and Undertaker kicks out!

This is a battle, folks. These two are laying it all on the line tonight.

'Taker is the first one standing while HHH reaches for the sledgehammer once more. Undertaker with a chair, glaring down and HHH. He hits with it and is hammering away with it. The thud is thundering through the stadium.

More shots to the back of The Game. Michaels steps in and pleads with 'Taker to give up the chair. He does and goes for a pin that only gets 2.

HHH to his feet again and lunges at Undertaker with the sledgehammer. Undertaker takes it from him. Trips does the crotch chop and takes the sledge shot to his head.

Undertaker hits the tombstone. The cover...1.....2....3! Undertaker has done it! The streak continues!

Undertaker defeats Triple H.

Michaels helps Undertaker to his feet and raises his hand in victory. Triple H is still down. After a little bit, Michaels and Undertaker help Triple H to his feet and out of the ring. Great sign of respect. Standing ovation for the three warriors, and it is well deserved. One of the greatest matches in WWE history.

WWE Hall of Fame video segment.

Each Hall of Famer is being brought out. They each receive a standing ovation, but none more so than Edge.

Heath Slater in the back trying to get a duet with Flo Rida, but he gets pushed into the wall instead. Awesome segment.

Team Teddy vs Team Johnny-

Each team being introduced individually, and the biggest pop goes to Santino Marella.....odd.

Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler get us started. Each member will wear their shirts to represent their respective teams. Dolph getting double teamed now as R-Truth comes in. Dolph tags out to Drew McIntyre. Great Khali in and doin work. He tags Booker-T and he is busting up McIntyre. David Otunga hits Booker from the outside and Booker hits all the members of Team Johnny.

Jack Swagger comes in now and is hitting Booker in the corner. Booker-T trying to get the crowd into it so he can get the hot tag, but he ends up getting clotheslined. Mark Henry gets the tag from Swagger. Henry doing work in the corner until the ref pulls him away. Team Johnny then starts doing dirty work in the corner while the ref is turned away. The Miz comes in and is trying to put Booker to sleep. Booker gets up and hits a suplex. Both men are down and looking for tags.

Dolph gets the tag from the Miz and gets to Booker and starts beating him down. Miz gets tagged back in for a little more action. Team Teddy is chanting for Booker, trying to motivate him. He gets up and slammed by Henry. Khali comes in and chops Henry. McIntyre and Swagger drop Khali. Kofi and R-Truth drop them. Then they and Zack Ryder go flying to the outside on top of everyone. Miz and Santino are the ones left in the ring as the rest are on the outside. Santino is doing work and comes off the top rope. He is going for the cobra and hits it on the Miz.

1...2...and Dolph gets to it before 3!

Ziggler ends up taking some amazing bumps and Zack Ryder came in trying to finish it off. He eats the skullcrushing finale and The Miz gets the pin for Team Johnny! What a finish!

Team Johnny defeats Team Teddy.

Zack Ryder stands up and Eve gives him a kick in the pebbles before bailing to the back.

After some video segments, Johnny is in the back talking with CM Punk. Asking about Chris Jericho's comments and how Punk feels about it. Then he drops a bomb on him: If Punk loses his cool and gets disqualified, he will still lose the WWE championship.

Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk-

A great video segment showing everything up to this point between Punk and Jericho.

They grapple around the ring and to the mat, fighting for position but neither man is getting the better. Punk starts hitting Jericho in the back and then throws him off the ropes and hits a knee. Jericho in the corner and Punk is attacking over and over getting very close to a disqualification. He is getting slapped by Jericho, adding fuel to the fire. After more abuse, Jericho yells "How's your father?" causing Punk to lose his cool a little bit more.

Punk heads to the top rope, but Jericho rolls out of the ring. Punk jumps on him outside the ring, and Jericho asks how his sister is. Punk then grabs and chair and chases Jericho into the ring, but instead puts the chair down and punches him. Jericho ends up countering and gets it to the ring apron. Jericho then does a suplex on Punk to the outside!

Taking it back inside the ring, Jericho has all the control. Punk is trying to get the crowd into it, gets to his feet but takes a backbreaker. Jericho goes for a cover but only gets 2. The action takes it to the corner where Jericho pulls Punk off the ropes onto his back.

Looks like his head hit the mat. Hard.

Punk gets to his feet and kicks Jericho away. Now he avoids a bulldog and pushes Jericho into the turnbuckle. Punk hitting some chops to the chest and knees and a big clothesline. A nice neckbreaker and the cover gets a 2 count.

Jericho goes to the corner and misses the lionsault but almost gets the Walls of Jericho. Punk reverses and drops Jericho for a 2 count.

Punk slams Jericho and goes up to the top rope. Going for the elbow on Jericho but gets countered and ends up on the outside. Jericho gets it back in the ring and takes the GTS! Punk going for the cover.

1....2...and Jericho gets his leg on the bottom rope, stopping the count.

Jericho gets up and runs off the ropes right into a powerslam. Punk goes for a suplex but gets reversed. Jericho hits the lionsault of the ropes but only gets 2 on the pin attempt. Jericho up goes to the top rope but gets hit by Punk. Punk goes for a hurricanrana but is caught in the Walls of Jericho! Its deep!

Punk fights his way to the ropes and gets out of it! Jericho charges at Punk and gets tossed out of the ring. Punk then comes flying out on top of him and they land hard. Punk then hits a flying knee and Jericho's head hit the metal ring post. Punk comes flying in and lands in the codebreaker. The pin gets a 2 count!

Punk gets control back and tries for the GTS but Jericho fights out of it. Now punk is down and Jericho is climbing up top once more. Punk hits Jericho with a kick and grabs him for a GTS. Misses and gets caught right in the middle for a Walls of Jericho!

Punk tries for the rope but gets pulled away. Punk gets the roll up and then gets switches to the anaconda vice. Then that gets switched to a pinfall for Jericho. That gets switched to the vice again! Now Jericho fights out and is going for the Walls again. Kicks to the head and Jericho goes down. Punk jumps on top with the vice!

Jericho taps out!!

CM Punk defeats Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship.

The Funk is in the house!!! He is actually on the mic and he is telling the fans to grab their cell phones. He then tells everyone to "Call they Momma's". Brodus Clay introduces his momma, who comes out and starts dancing just like his entourage does. She has her Bridge Club with her and they all start breaking it down!

The show can only get better when you have The Funkasaurus from Planet Funk who is Funky Brodus Clay on.

Sean "Diddy" Combs comes out and announces MGK is going to perform for us.

MGK is supporting Cena, saying the underdog is what he is and is who he is cheering for.

John Cena vs. The Rock-

John Cena is first to enter and it sounds like a mixed reaction from the crowd, in The Rock's hometown. Interesting.

Now Flo Rida is coming out to perform and support The Rock. Both are from Miami so I am sure the crowd is loving this.

And now The Rock's music hits and the crowd exploded. Rock is taking in all this glory for as long as he can. Either that or the other matches ran short so he is burning time.

Now with individual introductions from Justin Roberts, Cena gets a mixed reaction again and The Rock gets a huge pop from the crowd.

And finally, they will get this started.

This crowd is crazy ready for this match to begin. They are circling and finally come to the center and grapple. Cena throws Rock across the ring and the crowd seemed stunned. The "Let's go Cena" "Cena sucks" chants already begin.

This time they come together and The Rock is the one throwing Cena across the ring. Cena tries to smile it off. Rock gets Cena in a side headlock. This crowd is nuts. Even in a slow moment this crowd is ready to explode.

Rock with some great moves and looking amazing at this point. Cena gives a face of disbelief. Rock went for a pinfall but did not get it. Now Rock running the ropes and Cena hip tosses Rock and gets a headlock of his own on the mat. Rock stands it up and pushes Cena away before hitting him and attempting a sharpshooter but Cena runs out of the ring.

Rock pulls Cena back in but gets reversed and Cena is hitting Rock in the corner now. Cena with a clothesline now and goes for a pin. Only gets a 1 count. Cena trying to wear the Rock down and test his endurance.

Rock trying to battle back but John Cena throws Rock over the top rope. Working outside the ring now, Cena is dropping Rock on the announcers table and the ref is asking if Rock wants to continue. The Rock is holding his ribs tight, seemingly hurt after those hits. Cena starts to hit him in the ribs.

Back in the ring now and Cena hits a belly to belly suplex and gets a near pinfall. Cena looks very determined and is trying to play this smart. Goes for a punch and Rock starts battling back. Off the ropes and Cena picks Rock up in a bearhug. The midsection of Rock is really getting worked over right now.

Crowd starting to chant again and Rock is fighting back. Pushing Cena off and starting his patented punches into a ddt. Cover gets a 2 count.

Cena gets up and takes it to The Rock in the corner. Rock reverses and hits a flying clothesline into a spinebuster. Wants the peoples elbow but Cena rolls out and then Cena runs the ropes and hits his slam. Now he wants the 5 knuckle shuffle. It connects so Cena will look for the Attitude Adjustment. Gets Rock up but he slides off and they double clothesline.

Both men up now and they exchange punches in the middle. Rock getting the better until the AA hits!! Cover!

1...2...Kickout!!

So close! Rock gets up and hits the Rock Bottom! Goes for the cover but only gets 2!!

Rock has control now, working on Cena in the corner. Cena reverses into a side slam and almost gets a pinfall! Now John is going up to the top rope, Cena hits his leg drop on Rock and again gets a near pin! 2 and a half for sure!

Cena looking for the AA again, gets him up but Rock gets out. Takes Cena down and now the Sharpshooter in the middle of the ring! Rock has it and is pulling but Cena fights his way to the ropes. Rock starts pulling Cena away and goes for it once again, locking it in deep this time.

But once again, John fights to the ropes and gets out of it. Now at the apron, Rock is hammering away. Cena gets tossed into the steel steps, then gets his head bounced off for good measure. Back in the ring, Cena reverses and locks in the stfu!

Rock is fighting his way to the ropes. Cena jumps off just to pull Rock away farther, then locks it back in again. Rock looks like he is hurting and actually tempted to tap. Or that he will pass out. He looks cold now.

The ref is pulling at his arm. It falls once, then twice. One more and it is over. This time the Rock is fighting! The crowd gets hot and he is struggling to the ropes. He makes it!!

Rock gets up and hits a Samoan drop. Now they both lay on the mat, trying to get back to their feet.

Now they are up, after a 7 count, and Rock is punching. Now wants a Rock Bottom but gets reversed into an AA attempt. That gets dropped and Rock delivers a spinebuster. People's elbow time! It connects! The pin...

1....2.....Kickout!!

Roll up pin from Cena gets a 2 count! These two guys look very tired.

Cena drops Rock and sends him into the turnbuckle, schoolboy pin attempt that only gets 2!!

John picks Rock up and pushes him to the corner. They climb the ropes now and Cena wants a superplex. Rock fights him off and throws him off. Now the Rock is going for a cross body that gets caught and Rock gets picked up into the AA. It hits! Pinfall only gets 2!!!

How did that not get 3??? Wow! What a match!

Cena stands up, in pure disbelief, and decides to attempt the People'e Elbow. He walks right into a Rock Bottom that gets the pin!! The Rock wins! The Rock has done it! He came back, said he would, and now he has done it. The Rock has defeated John Cena.

The Rock defeats John Cena.
