UFC on FX 2 bonuses and awards for 'Alves vs Kampmann' in Australia

New, comments

UFC on FX 2: "Alves vs. Kampmann" from the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia, has officially wrapped, which means it's time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $50,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the card, and it's probably no surprise who's leaving "The Land Down Under" with a second sack of simoleons.

It's definitely not a surprise that Joseph Benavidez was awarded "Knockout of the Night" honors for his second round smashing of Yasuhiro Urushitani in the semifinals of the flyweight tournament. Turns out those insane odds at the books were right after all.

"Submission of the Night" was also a landslide in favor of main event winner Martin Kampmann, who used a Hail Mary guillotine choke to tap Thiago Alves after getting his brain rattled for 14 minutes. He said he was going to finish the fight and avoid any crazy judging shenanigans and that's exactly what he did.

And it got him an extra $50K. Can't hate the hustle.

Speaking of judging and scoring errors, Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall engaged in a spirited, back-and-forth battle that ended in a split decision in favor of the former. Or at least that's what we told at first. It was later learned that a scorecard error was made by the Commission in Australia and the bout should have gone to the fourth round, the sudden victory round instituted to avoid draws.

Oh, the irony. The cruel, cruel irony.

Maybe it's not so bad after all, as the two had one hell of a scrap that resulted in their being awarded "Fight of the Night" honors. They'll also rematch in the very near future to do it all again. Sounds like a gay old time.

Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC on FX 2:

Knockout of the Night -- Joseph Benavidez

Submission of the Night -- Martin Kampmann

Fight of the Night -- Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall

Again, each fighter received $50,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.
