The UFC on Fox 3 fight card, which is booked to go down this coming May 5, 2012, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is quickly shaping up. And there's a trend making itself quite clear.
The promotion today announced that the previously scheduled bout pitting lightweight bangers Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller will now serve as the five-round main event of the evening. While the fight has yet to be officially declared a title eliminator, it would seem to make the most sense.
Additionally, a heavyweight scrap was booked pitting the heavy-handed kickboxer, Pat Barry, against Strikeforce import Lavar Johnson. Both men are coming off crushing knockout victories, Barry at UFC on FX 1 this past Jan. 20 and Johnson at the UFC on Fox 2 event on Jan. 28.
So we've now got two bouts confirmed for the main card that featuring competitors who generally go out of their way to put on a show for the fans.
The three FOX fight cards will have run the gamut of match-ups. The first event featured a heavyweight championship fight, the second saw safer match-making that led to three relatively boring decisions and now they're delivering fights that promise to be barnburners.
Calculated or just a coincidence?
Here's how the UFC on FOX 3 fight card looks right now:
Main event:
155 lbs.: Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller
Main card:
265 lbs.: Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson
Preliminary card:
155 lbs.: Anthony Ferguson vs. Dennis Hallman
125 lbs.: John Dodson vs. Darren Uyenoyama
