The UFC on Fox 5: "Henderson vs. Diaz" event going down tonight (Sat., Dec. 8, 2012) at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington, kicked off its main card with a welterweight clash pitting the resurrected Mike Swick against the "Immortal," Matt Brown.
There were no real divisional ramifications, but it was supposed to be a fun way to open the evening with the more anticipated fights still to come.
That's exactly what it was.
Both fighters landed some soft shots early, then popped a few big ones. Brown grabbed a takedown that looked like it required little effort before latching onto multiple submission attempts, including a front head choke and a triangle.
Swick survived long enough to reverse into a guillotine attempt of his own, though it was never going to finish the job. They swung away once back to their feet and ended the opening frame to applause from the Seattle faithful.
Then, in the second, it happened.
Brown wore Swick down gradually and during an exchange, he pushed in with a left hook that had "Quick" falling flat and a right cross behind it that put Swick down for the count.
That's how you start a free night of fights proper.
