Despite believing he was, in fact, good enough to go for the gold, top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight contender Michael McDonald said he wasn't going to call anyone out.
Turns out he doesn't have to.
That's because he's been given the opportunity to get his hands on the interim strap when he faces off against temporary titleholder Renan Pegado, who is ruler of the roost while reigning champion Dominick Cruz tends to his troublesome knee.
When and where?
None other than the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 7 event, scheduled for Feb. 16, 2013 at the Wembley Arena in London, England, which takes place just over a month after the challenger turns 22 years old.
McDonald (15-1) is currently riding an eight-fight win streak. "Mayday" is undefeated in the Octagon (4-0) and is coming off a first round shellacking of former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) bantamweight champion, Miguel Torres.
"Barao," meanwhile, earned the interim title with a convincing unanimous decision win over Urijah Faber in the UFC 149 main event last summer. The 29-1 Brazilian hasn't lost since his 2005 debut and will undoubtedly be a tough nut to crack.
Who ya' got?
UFC on FUEL TV 7 will also feature a featherweight fight between Andy Ogle vs. Josh Grispi, while Che Mills goes to war against Matt Riddle in welterweight action.
