Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hall-of-famer Randy Couture has responded to Aikido master Steven Seagal's challenge to fight him after Seagal answered Couture's challenge to fight him.
Wait, what?
This is what happens when one person makes a joke and the other person doesn't have a sense of humor. Earlier this year, "The Natural" reiterated that he was done as a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. That is, unless Seagal was willing to step inside the Octagon.
See those lighthearted comments here.
His remarks didn't sit well with the former Hollywood action star, who told the MMA Hour he was "confused" by the challenge and willing to fight Couture -- for free -- in place where there are "no witnesses." But is that to keep one party from suffering embarrassment?
Or to keep authorities from finding the body?
We may never know, but Couture is letting cooler heads prevail, assuring the folks at Cage Potato he was just kidding around.
Hey, Nico! Lighten up!
"I'm the one that started the joke as an off-handed comment I made to Jay Glazer - that I'd only come out of retirement if it were to fight Seagal. Obviously now somebody has talked to him about it and it has gotten some legs. I'm not surprised that he wants to do it in private, remote location where nobody could see it happen. Obviously I intended it as a joke. I don't think it would really happen."
"The Natural" was forced to retire after one of Seagal's students, Lyoto Machida, sent his incisors into the upper deck of the Rogers Centre last year in Toronto. And what better way to exact revenge on "The Dragon" than by defeating his master?
Sorry folks, not gonna happen. Except maybe on Celebrity Deathmatch.
