Two perennial bridesmaids will battle it out in the co-main event of tonight's (Sat., Dec. 29, 2012) UFC 155: "Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2" event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as Joe Lauzon takes on Jim Miller.
Lauzon is a case study in what a fringe contender represents. He's constantly winning enough fights to keep his name in the running as a possible candidate to one day earn a title shot but he consistently falls down at the worst possible times.
Miller actually ripped off a monster seven fight win streak but he's developed a reputation as a guy who can't win the big one. His biggest win is quite possibly Melvin Guillard while he owns losses to Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard, Nate Diaz and current Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson.
At some point you have to beat the strong competition lest you get passed by.
Which brings us here to this impasse. Someone will win, making us think they can contend, and someone will lose, making us think they hit the wall again.
Same old, same old.
