More UFC vs. Strikeforce goodness? Yes, please.
The latest bout to feature members of each promotion pitted against each other has been added to the UFC 156: "Aldo vs. Edgar" event set for Sat., Feb. 2, 2013, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It's a lightweight lowdown that will see Jacob Volkmann take on Bobby Green.
Volkmann himself announced the bout via Twitter:
"It's official. I'm fighting Bobby Green Feb 2nd on UFC 156. Vegas anyone?"
"Christmas" was last seen submitting Shane Roller via rear-naked choke in the first round of their battle back on Oct. 5 at UFC on FX 6: "Browne vs. Bigfoot." That gave him his sixth win in seven fights and represented a big rebound following his submission loss to Paul Sass.
Green comes over from Strikeforce riding a four-fight winning streak, with his last victory a unanimous decision win over Matt Ricehouse in August. Obviously, the 26-year-old "King" is looking to prove he's got what it takes to hang with the big boys.
UFC 156 will feature a featherweight title fight as Jose Aldo puts his 145-pound strap on the line against lightweight import (and former champion) Frankie Edgar. In addition, Alistair Overeem returns to the Octagon to face fellow ex-Strikeforce heavyweight Antonio Silva.
