For Pat Healy, the hits just keep on coming.
MMAmania.com has learned via sources close to the situation that Healy's upcoming 155-pound fight against former Strikeforce lightweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal is in jeopardy due to an undisclosed injury to "Gamebred."
"Bam Bam" could be faced with finding a new opponent.
Healy was originally expected to fight Strikefoce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez for the title last September, although an injury to the champ not only nixed the fight, but also caused the cancellation of the entire show on just one week's notice.
He'd earned his shot at the title following five consecutive victories over top prospects within the promotion.
The bout was rescheduled as the main event for what was expected to be the final Strikeforce show on January 12, 2013, but once again, it was revealed that Melendez would be unable to compete, which left Healy with no opponent.
Masvidal was set to replace "El Nino," but may be forced to withdraw after getting hurt.
At this point, the best plan of action for Healy may just be to wait out the conclusion of the event and take a fight in the UFC like fellow Strikeforce fighters Derek Brunson and Robbie Lawler have done in the past few days.
What would you do in Healy's shoes?
