UFC Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 16 Finale medical suspensions and injuries: Pat Barry, Marcos Vinicius and others possibly out up to six months

The list of medical suspensions and injuries has been released for those fighters who competed at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 16 Finale event this past weekend (Dec. 15, 2012) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Take a look at who's possibly riding the pine for the next few months to lick their wounds.

USA TODAY Sports

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today (Dec. 18, 2012) released the list of medical suspensions and injuries for those fighters who competed at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 16 Finale: "Nelson vs. Mitrione" event this past weekend (Dec. 15, 2012) at "The Joint" inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Unsurprisingly, not everyone who descended on "Sin City" to get into a sanctioned mixed martial arts (MMA) fight left unharmed.

Pat Barry -- who scored the "Knockout of the Night" with his first round obliteration of Shane del Rosario -- could be out of action for up to six months with a potential foot injury. Strange, considering his hands did most of the punishing work, but certainly not uncommon for a hard-hitting kickboxer like "HD."

While perhaps the most noteworthy injury, it's certainly not the most ... not even close.

Marcos Vinicius apparently had his face broken by Johnny Bedford in their 135-pound showdown, appearing on the injury report with numerous possible fractures after being on the wrong end of an apparently vicious second round technical knockout.

That's not all.

Below is a list of the TUF 16 Finale medical suspensions and injuries:

  • Matt Mitrione -- Suspended until Jan. 30, 2013, and no contact until Jan. 15, 2013.
  • Pat Barry -- No contest until June 15, 2013, because of a right foot injury unless an orthopedic physician clears him to return sooner after x-rays are reviewed.
  • Shane Del Rosario -- Suspended until Jan. 30, 2013, and no contact until Jan. 15, 2013.
  • James Head -- Suspended until Jan. 30, 2013, because of a upper-right eyelid laceration and no contact until Jan. 15, 2013.
  • Marcos Vinicius -- No contest until June 15, 2013, because of a right infraorbital rim fracture, anterior right maxillary sinus and nasal fractures unless an ENT clears him to return sooner. Suspended at a minimum until Feb. 14, 2013, and no contest until Jan. 30, 2013.
  • Vinc Pichel -- No contest until June 15, 2013, because of a left foot injury unless an orthopedic physician clears him to return sooner. Suspended at a minimum until Feb. 14, 2013, and no contest until Jan. 30, 2013.
  • Nick Catone -- Suspended until Jan. 15, 2013, and no contest until Jan. 6, 2013.
  • Reuben Duran -- Suspended until Jan. 30, 2013, and no contact until Jan. 15, 2013.
  • John Cofer -- No contest until June 15, 2013, because of a right shoulder injury unless an orthopedic physician clears him to return sooner after x-rays are reviewed.
  • Jared Papazian -- Suspended until Jan. 30, 2013, because of a left-eye laceration and no contact until Jan. 15, 2013.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much sooner once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
