The next Ultimate Fighter was crowned tonight (Sat., Dec. 15, 2012) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, as Mike Ricci and Colton Smith met with the glass trophy and six-figure contract on the line.
Welcome Mr. Smith to the official Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) roster.
As expected, Smith wasted no time getting his hands on Ricci and imposing his will. Within the first minute he had secured a takedown and that was a wrap for that round. Ricci wasn't able to get back up from the suffocating top control Colton always brings to each and every one of his bouts.
Boring? You bet, but extremely effective.
No different than the first round, Smith got a takedown early in the second. This time, though, it came on a bit of controversy. Smith hit Ricci in the nuts but referee Steve Mazagatti missed it and, despite repeated attempts on Ricci's part to call attention to what happened, Mazagatti let the fight continue.
That's when Colton got the takedown and did his thing.
After two rounds, it was obvious Ricci had no answer whatsoever to the wrestling game Smith brought to the Octagon. The live crowd hated it, social media couldn't stand watching it, but it's hard to argue against a strategy that landed him his dream job.
TUF 16 is done and Colton Smith is your Ultimate Fighter.
