It's on!
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today (Dec. 15, 2012) officially announced the welterweight title fight pitting champion Georges St. Pierre against challenger Nick Diaz, set for UFC 158 at the Bell Centre in Monreal, Quebec, Canada on March 16, 2013.
St. Pierre is coming off a unanimous decision win over Carlos Condit at UFC 154 last month, returning from an 18-month layoff in triumphant fashion to make his welterweight title whole once again. Diaz, meanwhile, has been serving out a 12-month suspension that was handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) in Feb. 2012 for having marijuana metabolites in his system after a controversial loss to the aforementioned Condit.
For a refresher course on the "unfinished business" between St. Pierre and Diaz, as well as Diaz's current suspension situation, I encourage you to get up to speed by reading this post.
UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz" will also feature an exciting 170-pound rematch between Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald, while Johny Hendricks keeps busy against Jake Ellenberger. MMAmania.com will provide more on the UFC 158 fight card as it becomes available.
